For any gamer, having the right equipment is essential. You need a mouse that has extreme precision, programmable buttons for switching weapons quickly and easily, and is generally a pleasure to use. Today, we're reviewing the Roccat Kone[+].
The Kone+ is keenly priced given its epic list of tweaks and customisation options. However, you should consider how you hold your mouse and how much finger support you need before buying it, as we found the lack of support for our ring finger and little finger annoying.
In a market segment rife with choice, any manufacturer which wants to stand out must innovate their way past the rest of the crowd or use clever marketing techniques to dupe their target market.
6000dpi Pro-Aim Laser Sensor; EasyShift[+] and EasyAim are game changers; Roccat Talk compatible; Loads of color customisation and effect options; 22 functions thanks to EasyShift[+; 8 programmable buttons; solid 4D scroll wheel; Tracking and Distance Control Unit; Low friction mouse feet really...
Scroll wheel bug; Takes 28 seconds to apply settings; Too light without supplied weights; Drivers not included; Must be downloaded from Roccat website; Macro creation is over complicated
The Kone[+] shines with the intelligent solution that is the EasyShift [+]. The body has an interesting shape that can be used by a left-handed person, but the user would lose the benefit of the EasyShift[+] technology since he/she wouldn't reach the button five on the left side.
EasyShift[+] offers 22 programmable functions; Nice color effects; Scroll-wheel does horizontal scrolling; Quick resolution change with audio alert; Pre-recorded macros for games and applications
Button five is dedicated to the EasyShift[+] function; Hard to reach button with the triple bar (≡) symbol; Weight compartment cover is difficult to open and close
I recently did a review on the Razer Ouroboros, which I initially loved, but it had some weird tracking issues when changing the DPI, so I returned it and went back to my Logitech G9 for a while. Then I started looking into newer mice, and I stumbled upon the Kone XTD.
Roccat's American debut is nothing short of awe inspiring. With amazing products like the Kone+, you can expect to start hearing their name more frequently.
The ROCCAT Kone[+] gaming mouse is certainly an impressive peripheral for any gamer. The mouse offers a plethora of features a gamer would want such as customizable weights, high sensitivity and high precision laser technology, and enough buttons to satisfy even the most intense gamer's needs.
We are using a new addition to our scoring system to provide additional feedback beyond a flat score. Please note that the final score isn't an aggregate average of the new rating system.
Winning ergonomic characteristics; Self-calibration for any surface; EasyShift on-the-fly macro system; Voice feedback for (some) of the features is a definite plus
None; The only minor issue that did not reflect on the final scoring is the startling quality of the voice feedback
The Roccat Kone+ Gaming Mouse is an amazing product. Come with a 6000dpi laser sensor, 1000Hz polling rate, 1ms response time, 30 G acceleration, multi-color LEDS, robust software for button and macro setup and many more features. Also, the overall look, fit and finish on the mouse is exceptional.
The Kone[+] might be the strongest accessory to come out of ROCCAT Studios. Everything and anything can be customized and the comfort in a gamer's hand means for hours of gameplay with no problem.
