This Is The One

I just got this in and set it up. No calls to tech support. No problems. I even updated the firmware. I got this after returning a Thecus N4810. That was a problem from the gitgo. I'm using 2 WD Red Pro 1TB drives in a Raid 1 configuration. I setup a DHCP reservation on my router.

Powerful, Complicated, Noisy

I would recommend this for a small business who does not want to store data in the cloud. I would not purchase it again and would return it if it were still in the return window.

The QNAP TS-251+ is a powerful NAS solution which probably offers more than you need if buying this for a home office; This is my fourth NAS and easily the most potent one I've owned; I bought this to replace a Mac Mini running as both a backup, file and PLEX server.

The complexity comes with a price. I am not really happy with how any of the functions work; file sharing is inconsistent across the network, user access is confusing and doesn't work correctly, the media server is finicky when dealing with thousands of folders.

NCIX had this on sale at a price never seen before. Was looking to buy a NAS for the last few years then I was mostly set on this model for the last few months and was monitoring prices since then. Suddenly for 2-3 days 379$ showed up!

Powerful enough to handle all our pics; music and stream Full HD videos; QTS 4.3 is around the corner and will bring 64bits

Just a warning that if you're into 4K already you may want to look for beefier; While I can stream all to our Panasonic TV; streaming videos to our smaller Vizio does not currently work; will only do music and picture but QNAP is looking into this

Do not buy this. It is absolute garbage. The default login and password combination won't let you log in. I tried to work with support but spent tons of time and didn't get help, so I gave up. I got a Synology instead and it worked perfectly.

Good performance in RAID1

Had another T453A but I am also happy with 251+ . Running 2 WDREDPRO 10TB in RAID1 I get speeds over 200MB read. Upgraded the RAM to 4GB and using for storage and torrents is a good option. Bought it on sale at 200 pounds so it was best value for money. Used for storage,Plex and torrents.

Second QNAP NAS and it's fantastic

I am replacing my QNAP P219II which was getting long in the tooth. QNAP has provided updates and enhancements over the last 5 years of ownership so I decided to try out the 251. It's got a quad core Intel chip and 2GB of RAM vs ARM A9 and 512MB of RAM on my old P219II.
