Philips 55OLED804 Review

Unless you hate its Android TV smart system to an unreasonable degree, the 55OLED804’s outstanding OLED picture quality, its cute, well-built, Ambilight-enhanced design, its aggressive price and its brilliant dual HDR10+/Dolby Vision support make it extremely hard to resist.

Extremely sharp, detailed, vibrant pictures; Support for both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision; Great price for what's on offer;

Colours flare out in Vivid mode; Potential for MPEG noise with dark streamed video; Sound is a little light on bass;

Cheapest OLED and great sound

The 4k OLED screen is much brighter with great detail compared to non-OLED. 50 watt speakers give far better sound than most other TVs in this price range that only have 20watts so no need for a soundbar. I did find it can also connect to a Bluetooth speaker easily. The remote is simple and effective with a useful keyboard on the back. There's also a good app that acts like the remote too. Very happy with this tv when I bought it on sale, but regular price it is still awesome. Not sure about ambilight so I turned it off.

A great purchase

Very satisfied with this TV, the picture is very clear, the TV controller has YouTube and Netflix buttons directly, very convenient, when you do not operate, the lower right corner of the screen will remind you, teach you to use the correct operation method, the led light behind can change the color of the national flag, so that the room is very soft, do not need to turn on the other lights ·

Philips provides no support for this TV, beware

I bought this TV last November, very happy with the picture and the ambilight feature. But the lack of android software support is poor, and Philips customer service is even worse. On face value, this appears to have Nz Freeview, and it does, if you are stuck in the 90s with your UHF aerial. But for those of us living in modern times where streaming is the name of the game, Freeview NZ app is not supported on this device. I contacted Freeview and they said there is nothing they can do, the manufacturer needs to contact them. Another major issue, I had been casting from tablet to my old non-android TV for Spark Sport, this was annoying a...view more

Update to my review

This adds to my previous review - I was able to keep my existing receiver; I bought a 4K Bluray player, and now use that for Netflix and disks - it has dual HDMI outputs so it can send video direct to the TV, and audio direct to the receiver. I've managed the same setup with my home theatre/gaming PC - the GPU has HDMI and DP out; the HDMI goes direct to the TV, and I added a DP->HDMI cable to go to the receiver - just had to tell Linux to send audio over the DP instead of the HDMI. So I now get 5.1 audio in games and other content from the computer, and full Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD:MA from the new 4K bluray player - Dolby Atmos audio from...view more

Excellent picture, some issues getting audio to older AV Receiver

I give the TV 5 stars for picture quality, but have had issues connecting into my existing home theatre setup. I have a 1080P 3D capable Bluray player, and a gaming computer connected into the TV, and while the picture on the TV from the gaming PC, Netflix UHD, upscaled 1080P Bluray 2D, Vimeo, and other TV apps looks fantastic, getting 5.1 audio back to the AV Receiver via HDMI ARC does not work reliably or at all, depending on the codec used. Broadcast TV *sometimes* will send basic DD 5.1, but any DTS or higher quality streams will stutter, and then any source material with Dolby Atmos will not decode at all. The HDMI cables are all high...view more

Best Buy Tele

Best picture quality and sound. Features are exceptional and easy to use, I bought it on new year’s sale and saved money. Can’t beat that price in Newzealand market.
