REVIEW: Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Lens Review

Priced at around £540 pounds and bearing Leica branding, this 25mm lens has a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, internal focusing, Nano Surface lens coatings to reduce ghosting and flare and it offers the same field of view that a standard 50mm lens would do on a 35mm camera.

I use it mostly for shooting my newborn and for that, it's just great. Also used it outdoor, sometimes @ night and I'm very happy with the results. Definitely prefer it from the "Pancace"... This lens it's just fun!
Pros:
  • Razor sharp images
  • best optical performance m4/3 Lence I could find
Cons:
  • No IOS
  • AF a bit slow
  • not weather proof
  • high price

Awesome for portraits

Awesome for portraits, you'll get superb bokeh. One thing I don't like is the chromatic aberration is quite a bit. That's why 4 stars instead of 5.

I have had the Panasonic 20mm/1.7 pancake lens for some time. That was my lens of choice for walking around or indoor parties. But it was a bit slow with focusing. I heard good things about this 25mm/1.4 lens. Just had it for a few days.

Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH Lens Review

Given that Panasonic 25mm carries the Leica name it is reasonable to think it will be more expensive than its peers. It is also reasonable to expect that it should be something a bit special, but is it?

Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH

The Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH lens offers almost silent focusing, and in use, we have found the system very quick on the new DMC-G3.

Super sharp prime

My first prime lens and I've been blown away, exceptionally quick auto-focus and beautiful contrast and bokeh. I purchased the 20mm f1.7 after this lens and returned it as the auto-focus on the 20mm f1.7 was much slower and images lacked the "wow" factor of the 25mm f1.4.Compared to the...

  • Durable
  • Great Features
  • Great Picture Quality
