OnePlus 9 Pro review

The OnePlus 9 Pro is a good phone, but it’s certainly not a great one, with a compromised camera and clunky design. Strong specs and fast charging help make the case for the 9 Pro, but for the first time rival flagships deliver consistently better value.

Strong specs; Great display; Fast charging; OxygenOS;

Disappointing camera; Clunky design; Out-priced by rivals;

Oneplus 9 Pro Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 256GB, Pine Green) - BRAND NEW review

OnePlus just can't catch a break these days — and it's pretty much the company's own fault. Right on the heels of a praiseworthy update commitment extension that had us excited to increase our review score, news drops that OnePlus has been throttling some of the most popular apps to better manage...

Screen Smooth, bright, accurate colors, and generally uniform — it's a good display., Updates OnePlus extended its update promise to three years of OS upgrades and four years of security patches, making it one of the category-leading options., Speed Among the fastest phones you can buy right now.

Update quality The company has a dubious record for prompt OS updates with a history of buggy releases and an inconsistent release cycle at times. And sometimes those updates reduce...

OnePlus 9 Pro Review: The most dependable smartphone you can buy

The OnePlus 8 Pro launched in April 2020, and is only now being replaced by the OnePlus 9 Pro. A year in OnePlus world is an absolute age, as the company has usually released a refreshed “T” model six months into a model’s life span. But that’s not the case with the 8 Pro. All this extra time should mean that the OnePlus 9 Pro is something really special, right? It’s the first OnePlus phone released in partnership with super-expensive camera brand Hasselblad, which has lent its expertise to the OnePlus 9 Pro’s camera, and that certainly sounds special. But otherwise, the OnePlus 9 Pro looks to be as dependable as we expect from OnePlus, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but can being dependable also be exciting? Let’s get into more detail. If you’re interested in the OnePlus 9, which is cheaper but not as technically capable as the 9 Pro, read our in-depth review. Less sharp-edged, considerably shinier, and more than a little weightier, the OnePlus 9 Pro has a very different look an...

All the power you could want; A stunning screen; Very fast wired and wireless charging; Reliable, smooth, and quick software;

Hasselblad involvement isn't that noticeable; At $969, it faces serious flagship competition;

OnePlus 9 Pro review: More hassle than Hasselblad?

With the Pro, OnePlus tries to address the series' historically biggest issue: the cameras. However, even with support from Hasselblad, it still doesn't quite hit the mark in that regard. But the rest of the phone impresses, with fast wireless charging truly brilliant, and the display being top notch too.

Speedy and fluid performance; Great display; Primary camera is strong; Fast wired and wireless charging is a game-changer; Responsive and customisable software;

Zoom camera is poor; Colours from ultra-wide and primary cameras don't match; Glossy finish is slippery and attracts fingerprints;

Oneplus 9 Pro Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 256GB, Pine Green) - BRAND NEW review

The OnePlus 9 Pro is yet another great-performing, well-made smartphone from the Chinese brand. At £829 it still undercuts the competition on RRP, but not significantly with the frequent discounts for Samsung’s Galaxy S21 series and others available online.

Pros: Slick performance, good software, good battery life, speedy charging, great screen, solid camera, water resistance.

Cons: Only three years of software support, camera can over-sharpen images, screen glass not the toughest available.

Oneplus 9 Pro Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 256GB, Pine Green) - BRAND NEW review

The OnePlus 9 Pro is every inch the flagship smartphone at a price that's a bit more reasonable than the likes of Apple and Samsung offer. With each release, OnePlus smartphones seem to get better and the OnePlus certainly has the best camera to date.

Image quality is impressive, Decent zoom up to around 8X, Excellent monochrome images with good contrast, Good battery with fast charging, Decent screen, IP68-rated, Looks great

Zoom above 10X isn't great, Most expensive OnePlus to date

OnePlus 9 Pro: OnePlus undercuts the opposition again but the price keeps creeping up

Hasselblad cameras are good, Snapdragon 888 SoC, Rapid 65W wired charging and 50W wireless charging

Glossy finish picks up fingerprints, Middling battery life, No microSD card slot or 3.5mm headset jack

Oneplus 9 Pro Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 256GB, Pine Green) - BRAND NEW review

The OnePlus 9 Pro is a legitimate flagship phone that is genuinely competitive with the best Android phones on the market — at least from a features and quality perspective. Yet in terms of market and mind share, it’s still destined to be a niche device for a small group of enthusiasts looking for a...

Great screen, Elegant software, Fast charging

Camera can overprocess images, Digital zoom is weak, No 5G on AT&T, awaiting Verizon 5G certification
