OnePlus 9 review

The OnePlus 9 is a powerful phone at a reasonable price with a stunning screen. However, it's hampered by a selection of issues that are no longer forgivable.

Fantastic screen; Powerful components; Super fast charging; Oxygen OS;

Colour options limited by specs; No IP rating; Chunky with divisive finish; Camera issues;

OnePlus 9 review: A flagship in disguise

The design may not have wowed us that much, but OnePlus knows its users are all about getting the best performance out of every area of its phones. So if cutting corners and adding in a plastic frame means being able to stick two flagship cameras on the back, add wireless charging, a capacious battery, and market-leading speed, then we think that's a compromise worth making.

Speedy performance; Really fast wired charging; Wireless charging (finally!); Upgraded cameras are good; Vibrant and fluid display;

Plastic frame and chunky build; Wireless charging maxes out at 15W; No official water- or dust-resistance rating;

OnePlus 9 review

The OnePlus 9 comes with a fix for the most glaring flaw of prior OnePlus flagships: courtesy of a partnership with Hasselblad, the cameras offer better color correction, and both regular and ultra-wide photos look great. The lack of a telephoto lens and other flagship perks found on its Pro sibling aren’t missed too much, given the relatively low price you're paying for high specs and very fast charging. If you’re hunting for a flagship Android phone at an affordable price, the OnePlus 9 is worth considering.

Great specs for the cost; Good camera; Fast battery recharging;

No telephoto camera; No expandable storage; Lack of flagship-material polish

Oneplus 9 Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 128GB, Astral Black) - BRAND NEW review

“It's let down by a boring design and a camera that just cannot compete with other devices in the same price range.”

Oneplus 9 Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 128GB, Astral Black) - BRAND NEW review

The OnePlus 9 is a very nice smartphone that convinces with a great OLED display, good battery life, and very smooth performance. However, in our opinion, the premium smartphone lacks a bit of progress within the model series.

120 Hz OLED panel, stereo speakers, fast wireless charging, performance, USB 3.1, fast storage, good cameras ...

... with weaknesses in terms of zoom and without OIS, placement of the fingerprint scanner, no 3.5 mm audio jack, SD card support, games only up to 60 fps, WLAN could be faster, plastic frame

Oneplus 9 Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 128GB, Astral Black) - BRAND NEW review

The OnePlus 9 has all the flagship features you need, and it costs well below $1,000.

Good build, Not too heavy, Really good 120Hz flat display, Snappy performance, Excellent fingerprint scanner, Good pair of stereo speakers, Extremely fast charging, OxygenOS is still really good, Charger is included

Camera performance needs to be improved, No OIS on the main camera, No microSD card slot, Plastic frame

Oneplus 9 Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 128GB, Astral Black) - BRAND NEW review

It might not hit the heights of the OnePlus 9 Pro, but the OnePlus 9 offers equivalent performance for considerably less money. The level of compromise mitigation here is really quite remarkable.

Oneplus 9 Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 128GB, Astral Black) - BRAND NEW review

The OnePlus 9 is very, very similar to the OnePlus 9 Pro. Today we’re going to decide if it’s worth buying one over the other – and if it’s time to upgrade from an older OnePlus device.

Brilliant professional display, Elegant industrial design, Extraordinary Hassleblad camera array, Decent stereo speaker system, Far out-performs launch price

Punch hole display for front-facing camera, Glass front and back demands protective case, Wireless charging limited to 15W

Oneplus 9 Dual SIM 5G (8GB RAM, 128GB, Astral Black) - BRAND NEW review

At $729, the OnePlus 9 is noticeably more expensive than older OnePlus phones. But it also packs the kind of specs you’d see in a $1,000 flagship phone. So, what do you say to a phone that costs less than a flagship but runs like one? I think you say, “Yes, Please.

Top Tier specs for less than top tier money, Flat screen!, Super fast wired charging

No OIS or laser focus, No telephoto lens, Fingerprint magnet
