Nintendo Switch Lite rated: A no-brainer for portable play

The Nintendo Switch Lite is a new resigned edition of the standard Nintendo Switch, dedicated entirely to portable play and coming with all the advantages and disadvantages you'd expect from such an ambitious pitch.

Design is robust; attractive and easy to use; Already boasts a fantastic library of games; Increased battery life compared to the base model

Nature of console means certain games are no longer supported; Local multiplayer is far harder to achieve without docking

Nintendo Switch Lite - Turquoise SWITCHLITE TURQ review

Not as clever or innovative as its bigger brother, but the cheaper Switch Lite is probably the best handheld console Nintendo has ever made

Great colour options; Sharp; colourful screen; Brilliant selection of games; An actual D-Pad; Very comfortable to hold (unless you have giant hands)

Primary and non-primary console faff; Battery life still isn’t great; Some games need Joy-Con support; Should it even be called a Switch?

Nintendo Switch Lite - Turquoise SWITCHLITE TURQ review

It isn't just a smaller sibling to the regular Switch, the Lite replaces the DS family with aplomb and proves there is still plenty of life in truly portable gaming. Its (lack of) weight and processing prowess make for a very attractive proposition for those who want the best experience when on the...

Well-built and lightweight design; Plays all Switch games at their best (as long as they support handheld mode); Some of the best first-party titles on any console

Slightly pricey; In-game text can appear tiny on its 5.5-inch screen; Still no movie streaming apps like Netflix - just YouTube; Only 32GB storage without buying a microSD card

Nintendo Switch Lite - Turquoise SWITCHLITE TURQ review

Nintendo's proud tradition of creating simple, powerful handheld consoles continues with this focused take on the Switch's versatility. If you want a handheld that delivers the gamut of 2019's gaming potential, there is nothing close to the Switch Lite.

Top-quality build, easy on the eye, easier on the hands; The 3DS finally has a direct successor and it’s lost little in translation.

Not as fully featured as the OG Switch; but this should go without saying.

Nintendo Switch Lite - Turquoise SWITCHLITE TURQ review

If feel and price are more important to you than features and flexibility (or if you’re just trying to replace your 3DS) then the Switch Lite is a wonderful way to get your hands on an awesome system.

Nintendo Switch Lite - Turquoise SWITCHLITE TURQ review

Although the Switch Lite improves on the original model when it comes to aspects like portability, battery life, and controls, it does lack some important features like TV output and detachable Joy-Cons.

+ Compact form factor + Improved battery life + Sturdy D-pad controls + Great price; Lack of TV output; Smaller screen; No detachable Joy-Cons

Nintendo Switch Lite - Turquoise SWITCHLITE TURQ review

It's an even-more-portable Switch that is the perfect commute companion. It might not be quite as feature packed as the original but the missing features are rarely missed and that D-pad makes a huge difference.
