An excellent addition to my Nikon lens inventory.

I have been pondering the addition of a lens in this zoom range for some time. I was tempted by the previous edition of this lens, but thought that Nikon would eventually bring out one with VR. Which they did, but initial pricing seemed a bit high.

Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR AF-S Nikkor

This lens is one of the best out there. Highly recommended for any business that needs high quality images for any reason. We use it to show our customers what is on top of their roof. It has been fantastic for us.

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR

Since its introduction in 2007, the AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED has been the workhorse of many a professional photographer. But a compelling new option may have Nikon pros upgrading.

Optically stabilized design; Constant f/2.8 aperture; Quite sharp; Solid build

Uneven illumination at f/2.8; Edge performance suffers at wide apertures; Some distortion; Premium price

I\'ve used the lens primarily for photographing indoor car shows and trekking (landscapes) in the wilderness. The VR comes handy in car shows. Though its performance didn\'t blow me away, I really appreciate it being included.

-Evenly distributed sharpness; even towards the edges -Very fast and accurate auto focus -Lens hood -Build quality and weather sealing -Surprisingly good coma performance -Comes with VR

-Distortion; vignetting and chromatic aberrations (24mm@f/2.8) -Comically lengthy with lens hood attached -Abysmal close focus performance -Mediocre bokeh -Price

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR delivers generally excellent image quality, a well-implemented Vibration Reduction system, fast auto-focus and top-drawer build quality and weather-proofing, but it is a big and heavy lens with an eye-watering price-tag on launch, two factors which probably...
