The definitive portrait lens. Old but not obsolete.

I was not expecting this lens to be as sharp as it is. It immediately threw out any reservations I had about DOF and focus accuracy, This is a purpose built portrait lens. It does have good contrast however Nikon designed it in a way to enhance skin tones at the expense of reds and oranges.

Nice Glass

Took this out for a good test run today to see how this great lens would work on some street shooting I was impressed. The bucket drummer was back lit on a street corner with sun light reflecting off every shiny surface it could tough light to say the least Nikon got it right here!

Incredible and versatile 135 prime...

I own a series of Nikkor AF-D lenses that span the 50-180mm spectrum and allow me to capture excellent portraits in a variety of scenarios (50/1.4, 60/2.8, 85/1.4, 105/2, 135/2, and 180/2.8). Among these, the 105 and 135 DC-Nikkors are my favorite.

My Favorite Portrait Lens

The defocus control function of this lens creates the most appealing bokeh of any lens I know. To my knowledge, no other lens, aside from the Nikon 105mm f/2 DC lens, offers this function.

Best of the best!

The Nikon 135mm f/2 is largely considered to be one of the best lenses on the market. Herealded as one of the best portrait lenses on the market, this lens is razor sharp and produces beautiful bokeh.

Quality Control Issues

The lens produces stunning images when manually focused. The AF system however is very finicky and the sample I got front-focused horrendously. Even +20 compensation did not resolve the problem.

Nice Bokeh

Blurry Focus; Slow Focus

Nikon 135mm f/2D AF DC Nikkor

This has to be one of my favorite all time Nikkors and portrait lenses. The rendering and IQ of this lens is extremely beautiful and elegant. Really and amazing portrait lens even without the DC control. The defocus adds another dimension to this beautiful lens.

Light weight; compact telephot with great IQ; one of Nikons best

Slight CA at some apertures

One of the best portrait lenses

DC function is noticeable, 135/2 is good for full portrait or half body pictures.

Get it now because this will be a classic of all classics.

This is without a doubt the best lens for portraits EVER! It is well made in traditional Nikon fashion, without compromises and the best you can own. I highly recommend getting it from Amazon for the best price on the market.

Nikon 135mm f/2D AF DC Nikkor review by dugong5pm

one of Nikon's jewel. Work in portraits? this is your lens then. the "DC" means it has the magic for bokeh control.. and the bokeh is as delicious as promised. The lens also has that sturdy nikon-classics build. Nikon should really update this lens.

Image quality; build quality

slow AF; old design
