As a sports photographer, I'm totally spoilt with this beast of a camera!! Quite simply, you do not miss the shot. The big win with the D5 is the autofocus system, it is truly remarkable.

Took a long time to arrive, but well worth the wait. Its a camera that makes you think a bit more then my D600, but its way better than that. Not as heavy as I thought, unless using my Sigma 500. Iso settings are easy to use, 12 FPS is really strong, especially when using 153 AF.
Comfortable Controls; Easy To Use; Fast Shutter Speed; Great Image Quality; Image Stabilisation; Strong Construction
No light? No problem; Super-fast shooting; Built like a tank;
What the hey, 4K?; Where’s the Wi-Fi;
Let’s not sugarcoat it; the D5 is a niche camera. Even if you’ve got the cash to splash, it doesn’t mean you should - it makes sense in the hands of a pro photographer, but beginners will be lost. Improvements mainly come in the way of low-light and high-speed shooting; if none of those are your bag, you probably don’t need to take out a second mortgage just yet. Photographers invested in one brand will need serious convincing to switch to the other, but if you’re considering it, the D5 just about edges a win over the 1D X MkII because of incredible low light performance, superb battery life and a bunch of other smaller positives such as the touchscreen implementation. If you’re more interested in video, this probably isn’t the camera for you. That 3 minute restriction on 4K footage means you’d be better off in the Canon camp. Since I received my D5 I have shot three very large Hindu weddings, motorbike racing and a few model portfolios and I can tell you, if you're a professional photographer, this is the camera! I have a D3 with about half a million shutter actuations so it was time to move up.
Its hard to believe that less than a decade ago, I was using a D2hs. . . and LOVED it. . . this is another leap forward. The D3 was a leap, the 4 was a step. . .this is another leap.
I worked two D5s fairly hard yesterday (1167 shots), shooting eagles. I do not pretend that I am fully conversant with them yet, the bodies not the eagles. The D5 will not replace the D810 on my 600mm, a perfect marriage normally. I will say my D4s bodies are going away.
Best
The D3 / D3S was a game changer. The D4 / D4s gave me better AF and better resolution. The D5 has better AF, resolution and ISO, 1.5 stops better than my D4. Looking forward to the firmware upgrade I recommend going for the XQD version, for the speed
Nikon's going after Canon with both barrels this year with the introduction of the D5. Traditionally the flagship sports-oriented dSLR in Nikon's stable, there are significant updates over the D4s for its essential capabilities, including a new 153-point autofocus system, a whopping maximum ISO of 3,280,000 and 4K UHD (3,840x2,160-resolution) recording.
A new sensor, autofocus and metering system may make this an action-shooting master.
