Nikon Coolpix AW130: Tough keeps getting tougher (hands-on)

The Coolpix AW130 sees Nikon update its tough camera in what is pretty much a yearly move. The design has been more or less the same over the past three iterations of the this camera, and we're happy there's still a camouflage model for those armchair warriors out there who covet such things (like...

So far I am really liking this camera. I love the speed in which it turns on, I love that you can easily transfer pictures from the camera to your smart phone, I love settings it offers, and I love the majority of the pictures it takes.

I bought this to take underwater photos and that worked great. What surprised me was how great the regular pictures I took were. I also have a Nikon d700 and a d300. The only issue I've had is connecting it to my iPad.

Using AW130 Underwater

I am only going to comment on underwater usage. Also, I am going to compare with Canon D30. I currently have two of Canon D30 and two Nikon AW130s. I have taken both cameras to 35m depth with no problem, so I consider their depth rating to be the same.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, at this point, the main reason to buy a camera like the AW130 is its extreme durability, features, and little else. Smartphones have come a long way, and the appeal of point and shoots is starting to rely more and more on features that the fragile little...

Great rugged all rounder

Great for those snatch moments and as a second camera Or when in the mountains you don't want to lug your ton-weight DSLR around. Bonus is the reasonable quality movie mode. Only drawback is that I would have liked a viewfinder to avoid parallax

Bright LCD; Easy Setup; Easy to Keep Clean; Great Picture Quality; Strong Construction
