Netgear XR1000 / 500 read this before you buy!

I bought this product based on its rich features with the DUMA operating system for gaming and general household internet support. It has been fantastic at managing all my data needs including sustained flawless WiFi connection with many devices in a neighbourhood crowded with many other WiFi signals. This unit (and the XR500) does not contain a internal modem which maybe necessary to connect to your internet provider (discuss its suitability with your internet provider first!). I have NBN Fibre to the home & my internet provider (internode/tpg) support VDSL connection so I did not require a seperate modem between the NTD (the NBN Fibre connection wall unit) and this router. I posted my set up details on the whirlpool dot net dot au website. Google whirlpool + XR1000 to find it. Providing you understand this requirement, you will find this router is well worth the money!

Works great

I purchased this router last week and so far it has been working great. We have multiple devices that connect to the Wifi in my house and my computer will often get disconnected because my old router was not able to support many devices connected simultaneously. Ever since I got this Nighthawk Pro Gaming router, I have not had this issue. I am not lagging anymore when playing online with my playstation and people can be streaming online and it does not affect me. Very easy to setup and very easy to manage. I am happy with my purchase.

Netgear Nighthawk WiFi 6 Gaming Router (XR1000) XR1000-100AUS review

In terms of gaming-focused routers we've got a new king on the throne, with the XR1000 taking the crown from the outgoing XR500. This is a gaming router that leaves little, if anything, to be desired, with a fantastic mix of powerful hardware, empowering software and a stylish new design making it a...

Guided, simple setup, WiFi 6 speed and latency, Powerful triple-core CPU, Best in class DumaOS 3.0 software, Advanced network control features, Far-reaching range, Stylish, compact design

Expensive, Largely an iterative update on XR500, Security feature requires subscription

Everything I wanted and needed! Almost....

Netgear has always been very user friendly in my opinion. Everything from the setup to the GUI. This router so far, has been working fine. However, I’m not the biggest fan of DumaOS. Many features and setting I would normally find in the main GUI are non existent in duma and the QOS has been nothing to write home about. The speeds promised are just not there. This includes wired connections. All of this of course is a “so far” opinion. I’m looking to get a little more hands on and see if I can work some of these issues out myself. Netgear might still have a chance at blowing me away.

Netgear Nighthawk WiFi 6 Gaming Router (XR1000) XR1000-100AUS review

You might have just read that Netgear’s routers aren’t simply rebadged models sporting fancy coloured finishes, but externally, the XR1000 is exactly that. It’s the same shape and size as the RAX50, only here there are red accents to show it’s the gaming router.

DumaOS is powerful and flexible, Easy to set up, Fast

Expensive compared to other Netgear routers

Netgear Nighthawk WiFi 6 Gaming Router (XR1000) XR1000-100AUS review

The Netgear Nighthawk XR1000 Pro Gaming 6-Stream Wi-Fi 6 Router sure is exciting, and it likely will get better after a few rounds of much-needed firmware updates. If the price is not a huge issue, this is an all-around excellent Wi-Fi 6 router.

Sophisticated game-centric firmware, Fast Wi-Fi speeds and reliable perfornace, Robust web UI, beautiful hardware design, Useful mobile app, wall-mountable

Expensive but under powered - items of web interface can take a long time to fully load, Limited Wi-Fi settings, Mobile app can't manage any gaming features, No multi-gig port, Dual-WAN or Link Aggregation, Online protection and VPN require subscriptions, Buggy -- firmware needs some serious...

Netgear’s Nighthawk XR1000 gaming router makes a good thing better with excellent speed, security and a slew of top-shelf gaming enhancements. It may cost a lot, but it’s more than worth it for a serious gamer.

Top Wi-Fi 6 performance at mid-range distances, Includes malware protection, Good configuration options, Top gamer’s tools and interface

No Multi-Gig input or port aggregation, 90-day support policy and extra charge for security updates, Expensive

Netgear Nighthawk XR1000 Review

It isn't the fastest Wi-Fi 6 router in Netgear's lineup – there are faster models available for less – but the Netgear Nighthawk XR1000 is still quick. However, it's the DumaOS 3.0 operating system that really grabs attention; it offers fine control over the servers to which you can connect, ensuring you always achieve the lowest ping times. For those who need it, then, this is a great router.

DumaOS is powerful and flexible; Easy to set up; Fast;

Expensive compared to other Netgear routers;

An excellent choice for Wi-Fi enthusiasts, but lacks support for a really fast wired network.
