Easy to install and upgrade an older 100Mbps network to a 1Gbps network by directly replacing network switches. I plugged the network switches in and everything just worked. I purchased 3 of these network switches.

This is a review of the 8 port, metal case Netgear GS308 model. NOT the plastic case models also in this product listing. The Netgear GS308 is a handsome grey color with a solid feeling metal case. It boasts energy efficiency and it does draw very little power (about 3W per my kill-a-watt meter).

Though I do appreciate Netgear opening and testing the switch before sending it for review (and including their letter), it does make me question their acceptable defect rate. It does not give me a vote of confidence that they felt their QA during manufacturing may not stand up to reviewers.

It's an 8 port unmanaged switch; It's one of those devices in life that either work or don't work; That being said I will try my best to describe it's functionality; Using this switch I was able to replace two four port switches (one of which is my AP, so now I can move my AP to a better location)...

The power adapter is cheaply made; The one for the older FE models are much better in terms of build quality; Even the four port consumer model I replaced with this had a better adapter, sadly they have different power requirements so I couldn't use it; I would NOT rely on the power adapter.

It's small, well made, the LEDs indicate the function and speed of the connections. Doesn't run hot. I haven't tried the PoE feature but chose this unit for some possible future proofing should I need PoE devices. Happy with the purchase
