Brill!

As the last need for speed game hubby played was the original most wanted, he much prefers this one. Graphics, story line and the overall variety of the game. Cops aren't as much fun in this game though because they are much more scripted and in certain areas only, you can't mess with the cops like...

Need for Speed Payback Review – Tuned up but Not Quite Turbo Injected

2017 has been a banner year for race fans seeing two iconic franchises cross the finish line with Forza Motorsport 7 and Gran Turismo Sport . If Need For Speed Payback is looking for that pole position it's got some serious competition.

Likable characters; Loads of customization; Fantastic handling; Huge action sequences

Police nearly absent; Predictable story; Empty open world

Need for Speed Payback Review – A Middle-of-the-Road Affair

For a game that prides itself on the thrill of the open road and larger-than-life set pieces, Need for Speed Payback still manages to be disappointingly lacklustre. From its generic narrative to its one-dimensional characters, the game's shallow attempt at telling a nitrous-powered revenge story is...

Impressive Open World; A Tonne Of Customisation Car Options; Accessible For All Skill Levels

Vapid Narrative; Boring Characters; Cringeworthy Dialogue; The Need To Grind For Gear

For over two decades the Need for Speed franchise has dazzled many arcade racing fans with over-the-top action. What started off as a game of fast supercars turned into cop chases and later street racing and car modding – they've always kept with trends of the time.

At least 30 hours of content; The car engines sound amazing in this game; The powersliding feels so; so good; You'll genuinely adore the disciplines that stand out for you..

...but other disciplines fall flat; Serious draw distance issues; An upgrading system that nearly destroys the experience; No steering wheel support at all; The soundtrack is abysmal

Need For Speed

Need for Speed takes driving into a gorgeous world with a modern edge, but its pesky attitude and strict online-only requirement make you yearn for the good old days.

Ventura Bay lays out a gorgeous; rain-slick city; Car customization is rich and fulfilling; Drifts take time to tune and master

Completely unplayable offline; Pestering story mode; Parts of the world are a lifeless sprawl

Burning rubber: Need for Speed review

EA and Ghost Games are bringing Need for Speed back, boasting it as the definitive arcade racing experience, and in many ways they have succeeded. The newest installment is a spiritual successor to the Underground series, which many fans have been begging for.

Five ways to play; Terrific sound effects and visuals; Tuning is simple yet highly effective

Writing is mediocre; Could use more visual mods; Only five garage slots

Maybe it's time for another Burnout instead

Went wrong somewhere along the line. The original idea might have promise, but in practice it has failed. Threatens to be interesting sometimes, but rarely.
