At first glance, LaCie's new Rugged Thunderbolt drive doesn't look much different from it's predecessor the Rugged USB 3.0 Thunderbolt Series, but the company has made some improvements to this iconic drive.

I have a 2T Rugged Lacie drive and it has operated flawlessly for years. On that basis I purchased a 5T unit. Unfortunately the drive overheated immediately and needed to be replaced. Here is where the real trouble begins. The unit is under warranty, I called for replacement directions.

This is now my main backup drive and everything about it is fast. Besides, for me (I work in petroleum exploration), ruggedness a very important factor, which is why I went with the SSD design in the first place.

Good harddrive....spacious and really like the raid capabilities and the diferrent options to use raid based on the users personal uses.

LaCie's Rugged range is designed to offer an extra level of insurance when you're lugging around data on an external drive. It features a bright orange rubber sleeve designed to protect the drive against a 1.2-metre drop, such as sliding off a table or out of your bag.

Bought to link directly with a new MacBook pro this Hard drive is simple plug and play as is super fast. It will be travelling with me everywhere and this is the reason for this particular drive. This is my second drive now.

Now 3 months on, working well as backup disk & good speed for photos & iTunes. Also, has options for connecting ports. I've had a 1GB LaCie Rugged for several years so expecting long lasting & rugged/durable again

Easily fast enough to run audio plugins and samples from when connected via usb-c

Not the smallest drive I had, but certainly the toughest. The drive is very well built, and has excellent transfer speeds. The setup was a no-brainer, and the drive has been working like a charm for a bit more than a year now, and survived plenty of trips.

I had to salvage all my files from an old external drive, before it was obsolete. I bought this online at johnlewis.com, and picked it up from the store's collection point at Brent Cross, NW London.
