It's probably the best reader for people that only want a device for reading. I have both an iPad 3 and iPad mini and prefer the iPad mini over the Kindle Paperwhite and the iPad 3. If I am going to buy a device I want to be able to do multiple things on it.

Though the Kindle Touch is a necessary catch-up upgrade for Amazon, this model's hardware and software introduce little innovation and imagination to separate it from the competition.

For this review I'm going to compare the Kindle Touch with the Nook Touch and Sony Reader PRS-T1. I've already compared the Nook and Sony head-to-head, both stock and rooted, so this review is going to focus on comparing each of them with the Kindle Touch specifically.

The biggest issue with the Amazon Kindle and its E-Ink technology is that while it's fantastic for reading on the beach, in broad daylight, or lasting for what seems an eternity on a single charge, try to read it in bed and you'll struggle without some light. Not any more.

Locked-in to Kindle books

I've been a Kindle owner since the very old and chunky Kindle 2 device. Here's my personal pros and cons on the new Kindle Touch: PROS ON THE KINDLE TOUCH: 1) Smaller and lighter than my previous Kindle Keyboard model.

The dedicated eBook reader market is facing formidable competition from full-featured tablets that run a gamut of apps, offer extended functionality, HD screens and are priced just above the eBook readers.

Despite what many tablet manufacturers claim, most people find reading for long periods uncomfortable when using a backlit screen. As such the humble eReader with its easy-on-the-eye e-ink screen has remained fairly popular in the wake of the tablet obsessed masses.

The new Paperwhite isn't a huge leap forward compared to Amazon's first model. But unlike the smartphone world where marginal updates are supplemented with features no one will actually use, the Paperwhite's incremental updates are actually useful.

Amazon continues to improve its e-ink screen and lighting features, which are nearly on par with an ecosystem that can't be beat; The Page Flip feature is a fantasy-book reader's wish come true with quick access to maps without losing your place

Still no ability to create multiple accounts for adults reading the same book

The Touchscreen edition of the popular e-reader is heavier and pricier than the original, and is only worth a purchase if audio or 3G is a priority.
