JBL Boombox 2 Portable Bluetooth Speaker JBLBOOMBOX2BLKAS review

JBL's Boombox 2 speaker is built for backyard parties, tailgates, and anywhere else you want to bring big Bluetooth audio.

Very powerful audio performance; with booming bass and sculpted highs; Waterproof; Can charge mobile devices

Expensive; Heavy and bulky; Sound signature not for those seeking accuracy

JBL Boombox 2 Review

The JBL Boombox 2 is a big, portable Bluetooth speaker that delivers powerful bass depth and high volumes. At $499.95, it’s also quite expensive. The speaker's boosted bass and sculpted highs likely won't appeal to purists, but fans of a big sound will enjoy its robust output. While you can certainly find speakers that deliver a more nuanced sonic experience at this price, if you're looking for an outdoor-friendly, fully waterproof party system, the Boombox 2 won't disappoint. Design Available in black or camouflage models, the 10.1-by-19.1-by-7.9-inch (HWD), 13-pound Boombox 2 isn't the kind of portable speaker you can throw in a bag. It’s big and heavy, and portable in the sense that it has a built-in handle for taking it to the backyard, rooftop, or to and from your car’s trunk. Its IPX7 rating means it can be submerged up to 3.3 feet underwater for up to 30 minutes. We don’t advise this, as Bluetooth doesn’t work well underwater, but the point is that the speaker can get drenc...

JBL Boombox 2 Portable Bluetooth Speaker JBLBOOMBOX2BLKAS review

JBL doesn’t reinvent all that much with this newer iteration of the Boombox, though did manage to change its multi-speaker connectivity and keep it friendly to water. A speaker like this was made for everything to do with being outside and makes for a perfect companion at outdoor parties.

Loud; distortion-free sound; IPX7 water-resistant; 24-hour battery life

Expensive; Missing the best Bluetooth codecs; Won’t work with original

The Holy Grail of Bluetooth Speakers

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If I had to use a word to describe the JBL Boombox 2 it would definitely be "BEAST"! The sound that comes out of the Boombox 2 is unreal! This speaker gets LOUD and I happily say that without distortion. The highs and mids are clear and crisp, but definitely the best and most impressive feature of the JBL Boombox 2 is the bass. This speaker fills large rooms with powerful clean bass and also outdoor areas (something that IMO no other portable speaker can do). Also, the bass radiators look amazing while playing music! Battery life is also great with a little over 20 hours of playtime, and I love I can literally take it anywhere since it's waterproof (IPX7) In conclusion, if you are looking for a big portable speaker with great battery life, amazing sound, monstrous bass, waterproof you really can't go wrong with the JBL Boombox 2.

Greatest boombox EVER

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am so happy to have added the Boombox 2 to my JBL collection. It's perfect for outdoor recreation and anything short of primitive camping/hiking. Not only is it waterproof, but I discovered that it also floats so you never have to worry about losing it while out on the lake. It delivers impressive bass and mid tones rivaling even the Partybox at lower decibals but at a fraction of the weight and size. It has a USB and mini USB port for charging external devices. It lasted a whole weekend of camping and kayaking with frequent use at 50%-75% of volume and while charging an iPhone. This Boombox will be tagging along with me all summer long.

JBL Boombox 2 Portable Bluetooth Speaker JBLBOOMBOX2BLKAS review

JBL Boombox 2 certainly has enough power to bother people in the park. It also sounds surprisingly good.

Awesome sound pressure and very good and balanced sound! Long battery life. You can pair as many as you want. IPX7 waterproof.

The bass is a bit slow, and the wireless range is mediocre.

Ridiculous bass

This thing is huuuuge. Very comfortable carrying grip, thankfully, but it is much heavier than my last portable speaker, the Extreme 2. For good reason, though, because this thing drives some seriously bone rattling lows, and the rest of the sound keeps from being submerged under the bass like with other lower quality sound setups. It's fun to just watch the drivers kick on this thing. Feels very durable, design is sleek, and music sounds fantastic (especially if you like bass). Only downside is I wish it was equipped with aptX for the price but its not an issue, as SBC isn't as bad as it once was and the Bluetooth 5 performs perfectly fine.

Great Sound Quality - Poor Battery Life

Sound quality is phenomenal. Battery life if terrible. Advertised 24 hour battery life, even has a charging port for your phone. needless to say i might get 8 hours out of the battery. Contacted support, they gladly sent me a new one. Same thing. Then states well play at half volume to get close to the advertised battery life. Who wants this speaker at half volume. I wouldn't expect the full 24 but at least half. Give me 12 hours with no worries. This speaker is way too expensive to have to keep plugged into the wall. You can buy PA uprights for half the money if you want to keep one plugged in.
