The Marley family of audio equipment (and the like) has summoned forth a coffee-cup-sized speaker that's able to connect to your device via Bluetooth or line-in, and it goes by the name Chant.

The Chant Bluetooth cheaper than some portable wireless speakers and its eco credentials mark it out, but sound quality isn't the best. If you're prepared to carry something a little larger, i-box's Twist sounds better and is ￡10 cheaper.

There are so many sub-$100 Bluetooth speakers, standing out in the crowded field can be difficult. House of Marley's Chant does so, visually, with its unique wood-and-cloth design. At $59.99, the speaker delivers a clear audio performance in the mids and highs, but it runs into some trouble when playing tracks with powerful bass content at higher volumes. Its portable design and built-in speakerphone are certainly assets, but the lack of onboard playback controls or track navigation, combined with the decent-but-not-astounding audio performance, make the Chant a less compelling option than some of its competition in this price range, like the Editors' Choice JBL Clip+ ($79.95 at Amazon) . If you've played with one portable bluetooth, you've pretty much played with them all. But then there's The House Of Marley, and with the legacy such as theirs, you're getting more than what you bargained for.

The bass heavy speaker is louder than most

The absent "Play/Pause button is a bit odd; seeing as though they made room for a bluetooth AND power button when they should have the same function

While it might not be as small as some speakers out there, the design is still a very portable option overall. There are a few different Chant models offered by House of Marley, and this one is the smallest at about five and a half inches tall, making it a great choice for setup with a laptop.

I bought this to use it when I travel, mainly camping. It was bigger than I thought, but was stunned by the well-built design. It has a wooden material that looks very unique.
