Google Pixel Buds A-Series review: Sounds familiar

These in-ears offer a lot for your money, including good sound performance, a great case, comfortable design, and deeply integrated Google Assistant. But external isolation is limited by design and there's no volume control on the 'buds themselves.

Great value for money; Great audio performance; Deeply integrated Google Assistant; Google Fast Pair; IXP4 waterproofing;

No volume control on earbuds; Limited isolation; No active noise-cancellation (ANC);

Google Pixel Buds A-Series Review

Last year's Pixel Buds were disappointing, offering mediocre sound quality plagued with Bluetooth artifacts at a too-high price of $179. Google's Pixel Buds A-Series look the same, but they cost a lot less at $99 and they fix most of the audio issues we experienced with their predecessors, with clean, balanced sound. Most importantly, they continue to deliver the best hands-free Google Assistant voice control you'll find in any pair of true wireless earphones. While the Anker Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro offer active noise cancellation and better bass for $30 more, Google Assistant power users might be better served by the Pixel Buds A-Series.They Look and Feel the Same The Pixel Buds A-Series are available in white or olive (which is more of a gray than a green), and share the exact same physical design as the previous Pixel Buds.The earpieces feature circular bodies with matte outer panels sporting embossed Google logos. Relatively long stems extend from the curved, glossy inner ...

The true wireless Google Pixel Buds A-Series earphones offer good sound quality and hands-free Google Assistant voice control for an affordable price.

Clean, balanced audio performance; Hands-free Google Assistant voice control; Comfortable

Bass could be stronger; Case doesn't support wireless charging

Google Pixel Buds A-Series review

The A-Series sound just as good as last year's second-gen Pixel Buds, but cost half the price. At £99, you can more easily forgive the lack of active noise cancellation. The lack of wireless charging is a blow, with Samsung's Galaxy Buds+ including it for the same price, and the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1+ manages better sound isolation, and quality, for not much more. The deep Google Assistant integration is hard to beat, though. If you're looking to buy Google, this is the pair to go for.

Clean and balanced sound; Fast pairing and slick software; Competitive price;

No wireless charging; Poor sound isolation;

Google Pixel Buds A review

If you can live without things like wireless charging and noise cancelling - and want to prioritise smart features - then the Pixel Buds A-Series are the ones to buy.

Google Assistant support; Plenty of smart features; Good sound quality;

Limited earbud battery life; No ANC; Can't customise controls;

Google Pixel Buds A-Series review

The Google Pixel Buds A-Series offer nearly all the same features as the Pixel Buds 2 at half the price and with better bass response. They’re not the most comfortable true wireless earbuds, but we appreciate their slick design and built-in Google Assistant.

Better bass response; Hands-free Google Assistant; Cheaper than the Pixel Buds 2;

Not the most comfortable; No noise cancellation; Slightly fatiguing sound quality
