Fujifilm GFX 50S

The Fujifilm GFX 50S is the best medium format camera you can buy in this price range, and earns our Editors' Choice. It doesn't do some things that high-end medium format cameras do-the Phase One XF 100MP is our favorite in the high-priced realm and offers a physically larger, 100MP image sensor,...

Medium format image sensor; 51MP resolution; Crisp, modular EVF; Tilting, touch LCD; Dust- and moisture-resistant design; Film Simulation modes; Dual UHS-II card slots; Wi-Fi; USB-tethered shooting

Quirky EV compensation control; Limited lens selection at launch; Modest 1/125-second flash sync

Fuji GFX 50S

The Fujifilm GFX-50S is unlike any other digital camera reviewed here . It is a highly specialized product having its own Mirrorless System with a newly-designed all-electronic lens-mount and paired with a large 0.8X-Crop sensor.

Extremely sharp images; Class-leading dynamic-range; Very low image-noise; Nicely saturated colors; Highly reliable metering; Very accurate autofocus; Impressive throughput; Class-leading optional EVF and Tilting Adapter; Many external controls; Nine Function buttons; Highly customizable Status LCD,...

Sub-par AF speed; Frequent yellow cast with Auto WB; Long black-out; Slow shot-to-shot speed; Slow mode transitions; Dual-axis level hidden; Complex controls; Histogram disappears when applying EC; Poor ergonomics; Very bulky; Status LCD consumes power when Off; Very poor battery-life; Soft aperture...

Fujifilm GFX 50S Review

In the world of photography, what's generally understood is that the larger the film format is, the more detail your image has. This is one of the advantages of shooting in a medium or large format unlike when using 35mm which is common even in full-frame cameras today.

Light body; Side battery compartment; Easy to use ergonomics; AF-point selection joystick; Accurate focusing when scene is well-lit; Tilting touchscreen display; Amazing details; Minimal noise despite high ISO

A bit sluggish to autofocus; Focus is a hit and miss when scene is dimly-lit

Fujifilm GFX 50S Review: We Go Big with Fuji's Medium Format Mirrorless Camera

While it might seem unusual that a camera can be both mirrorless and have a medium format size sensor, that's exactly what Fujifilm has created with their new GFX 50S. The 51.4MP CMOS sensor size is 43.8x32.9mm, 1.7x the size of the sensor in a full-frame DSLR; the body is decidedly mirrorless,...

Fujifilm GFX 50s Review

If you really enjoy the process of photography, you'll fall in love with the Fujifilm GFX.

Great image quality; User-friendly interface; Good battery life; Edge-to-edge AF coverage; Relatively affordable

Image quality not that much better than full-frame, 1/125 sec; flash sync speed, Continuous AF basically unusable

Fujifilm GFX 50S review

As we've mentioned, the Fujifilm GFX 50S isn't a camera designed for speed junkies looking for out-and-out performance, so it's unreasonable to expect it to excel in those areas compared to its smaller-sensor rivals.

Breathtaking image quality; Ergonomic controls; Weather-sealed body; Very accurate AF

Only 1/125 sec flash sync, Awkward exposure comp; control, AF is slow

The Fujifilm GFX 50s is the first medium format camera I've ever had the chance to review. I was really excited about the idea of trying it and seeing how the quality of a digital medium format sensor compared to the cameras I usually review. Luckily, I wasn't disappointed.

AMAZING VALUE FOR WHAT IT COST

This GFX-50s camera is worth every dim. If you want to try a medium format camera I would highly recommend this. I got two lens for it but my most used is the 110mm portrait lens. I use Sony full frame and it is still a very good camera but the bokeh it produce cannot be compared with the GFX-50s.
