Epos H3 Hybrid Review

The Epos H3 Hybrid gaming headset tries to do a bit of everything. It features Bluetooth connectivity for phones and the Nintendo Switch, a USB wired connection for the PC, and 3.5mm connectivity for the PlayStation and Xbox. Overall audio quality is pretty strong, at least for stereo content, proving that Epos has kept the momentum on that front in its post-Sennheiser collaboration days. However, its microphone is less than stellar, and the app-driven, 7.1-channel surround sound on PC is underwhelming. That makes the Epos H3 Hybrid's $179.99 price feel a bit high, especially when our Editors' Choice picks, the wireless Razer Barracuda X and wired Razer BlackShark V2, ring up well below that. The Epos H3 Hybrid works well as both a wired and Bluetooth gaming headset for nearly every platform, but it's pricey and lacks compelling spatial audio processing.

A good wireless gaming headset

I bought these to use for both PC and PS4 gaming. Was sad to learn that the PS4 doesn't support bluetooth audio devices, but they work well through either the controller or via USB. Good sound quality, very sensitive microphone and decent battery life – so far charging only once a week after multiple 2–3 hour gaming sessions. I also like that they can handle two sources simultaneously – was listening to a podcast via bluetooth from PC while gaming wired to PS4 and sound from both comes through clearly. All round a good headset, and I am happy with my purchase!

High pitched noise in the right ear

The headset arrived looking pretty good, I quickly realized that there is a high pitched ringing noise in the right ear. If you can hear up to 14,000hz, do not buy this item, as you will be constantly interrupted by a high pitched ringing sound.

Bluetooth reduces audio quality when mic is in use

If you experience drops in your audio quality make sure your mic isn't in use. If you prefer to talk on discord while doing other things you may want to get a headset with a dongle rather than Bluetooth. Also, for some reason there was a windows setting initially that gave exclusive control of sound in the apps to the headset so it would only play the sound of the app you're currently using and nothing else.

Faulty

Reported it faulty day1. Still waiting on a refund. Sound quality was very poor, cracking sounds and cutouts via bluetooth and wired connection. Went with a more reliable product.
