Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II review: Nip and tuck triumphs

Canon was late to the 1-inch sensor compact cameras game, following in the Sony's RX100 footsteps to deliver the original PowerShot G7 X back in 2014. In the period since then this larger-than-average sensor sector has become a battleground.

Great responsiveness; customisable lens control ring adds click-stop/smooth control; decent low-mid ISO image quality; fast 24-100mm f/1.8-2.8 lens; pocketable design; touch-control tilt-angle LCD

No viewfinder or facility to add one; high ISO image quality (over ISO 1600) not all that; battery is only so-so; Sony RX100 IV is still a step ahead; where are the next-level autofocus features

Canon G7X Mark II

The Canon G7X Mark II sits in Canon's premium range of compact cameras. It's intended to appeal to those who want a device that offers a high level of control and excellent image quality, but slots into your pocket.

Large sensor; Wide aperture lens; Touch-sensitive screen; Wi-Fi

Lack of viewfinder; Short zoom; Macro focusing is tricky

Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II review

There was a time when Canon's PowerShot line was the obvious choice for anyone who wanted manual control in a compact camera. However, as manufacturers have abandoned the budget end of the market, too many capable alternatives have surfaced for this to remain the case.

Responsive touchscreen; Pleasing JPEGS straight out of the camera; Sound AF system with effective focus tracking

Lack of built-in viewfinder may discourage some people; Soft results at wider focal lengths; Video capture limited to full HD

Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II: Australian Review

Here's my camera wishlist: I want it to be easy to use, not overly complicated, take great images that don't need a lot of post-processing in a range of environments, be portable (as in small enough to pop in my bag comfortably, rather than needing a bag of its own) and not - possibly most...

Canon PowerShot G7X Mark II

Canon's new PowerShot G7X Mark II addresses some of the criticisms levied at the G7X and adds some worthwhile improvements without increasing its price. Physically similar to its predecessor, the Mark II has the same 20.1-megapixel CMOS sensor and 4.2x optical zoom lens and remains limited to...

Review: Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II

The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II is a serious compact for serious photographers. Just take a look at that all-black colour scheme: your six-year-old nephew won't want anything to do with it.

Canon PowerShot G7X Mark II

Good colours and sharpness; Low light photography exceeds expectations; Easier to use than predecessor; Good battery life

Autofocus performance has a few weak areas; Fine details lack definition

Just a great vlog camra

I got this camera for myself and my girlfriend. And it's totally a great tool to our kit. It's reall easy to use with simple pre set function for when you need a fast set up on the go, but also has the bigger camera options as an addition. Compact and easy to carry around.

Excellent compact camera for Video

I bought this camera for mainly video (im not a vlogger) and it passed with flying colours! Its simple to use and solidly build. The time lapse feature is awesome. The battery life is ok could be better but sufficient and good for at least 1hour video on the highest setting.
