Canon’s M6 Mark II is a camera with two different faces. On the plus side, it delivers 14 fps burst shooting speeds, beating all of its rival products. It also has fast autofocus with eye- and face-detection that’s good, though not quite up to Sony’s level.
Decent handling; Blazing shooting speeds; Good autofocus performance; Detailed and color-accurate images
4K not as sharp as rivals; Most EOS-M lenses not sharp enough for sensor; No electronic viewfinder
It might be small, light and consumer-friendly, but we can see the M6 Mark II being comfortable in the bag – or indeed pocket – of many professionals. Good enough to pop off the odd still for social media and easily capable of great-looking video, it's reasonably affordable, expandable enough and...
Good images; Competent video mode; Good handling and body controls
Not cheap
The Canon EOS M6 II features a 32.5mp APS-C CMOS sensor, the highest resolution APS-C sensor available in any camera, and the same sensor as found in the Canon EOS 90D DSLR . The sensor and camera give high resolution, high-speed continuous shooting at 14fps, as well as uncropped 4K video recording,...
32mp APS-C CMOS sensor; High-speed continuous shooting; Fast Auto-focus system; Easy to use with built-in help; Excellent colour reproduction; Easy to use touch-screen and controls; In-camera raw processing
Only 8 EF-M lenses available from Canon; Kit lens is soft unless stopped down; Lack of effective optical image stabilisation for video; Lacks built-in EVF
Halfway between amateur and pro, halfway between stills and video, it’s a great little camera for producing a little bit of everything
Good images; Competent video mode; Good handling and body controls;
Not cheap;
It's for those reasons we continue to recommend the Fujifilm X-T30 and Sony a6400 more highly for photographers shopping for a mirrorless camera. The M6 Mark II itself isn't too far behind, and if Canon can better support it with native lens options, its appeal should broaden.
High-resolution 32.5MP sensor; 14fps burst rate; Quick, accurate autofocus; Face and eye detection; Flip-up LCD; 4K video; Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
EVF isn't built in; Sensor isn't stabilized; Native lens library lacks premium options; Dumbed-down video options; Pricey
I absolutely love the hardware and taking videos was much better than I expected, but my experience with photos wasn't as clean as I hoped it would be.
Exceptional build-quality; Convenient size; Great 4K video shooting
Not weather-proofed; Pricey; Photos could be better
