After publishing a detailed Canon EOS 7D Mark II First Look in September, we have now received a production unit. It was supplied with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens , which we reviewed in July 2012.

As you might guess from its name, the new Canon EOS 7D Mark II replaces the Canon 7D. It therefore assumes its place above the APS-C format Canon 70D and below the full-frame Canon 5D Mark II in the Canon SLR line-up.

When the Canon 7D came out in 2009, it soon became one of the most popular DSLRs ever. It was fast, rugged, with great video features, all for a whole lot cheaper than the more pro-oriented 5D Mark II.

The Canon EOS 7D Mark II ($1,799, body only) is the long-awaited successor to the company's flagship APS-C D-SLR, the 7D . The 20-megapixel camera may bear the same moniker, but the Mark II is completely revamped.
