Canon EOS Rebel SL3 / EOS 250D review

We rate the old EOS Rebel SL2 / EOS 200D as one of the best beginner cameras ever, so does its successor do eve...

Very light and compact for a DSLR; Great Live View autofocus response; Vari-angle touchscreen; Simple but effective controls

Only 9 AF points in viewfinder shooting; Thicker body than mirrorless rivals; Four-way pad quite small

Canon EOS 250D Rebel SL3 review

The Canon EOS 250D, or Rebel SL3 as it's known in North America, continues the premise of its predecessors: a compact and affordable body that's step-up over the cheapest models while delivering what should be the best of both Worlds with a traditional DSLR optical viewfinder and a thoroughly modern...

Canon EOS Rebel SL3 / 250D Review

When you need (want) the smallest camera possible, a camera ready to go everywhere with you, but do not want to give up DSLR features, including the excellent image quality these provide, the SL3 immediately jumps to the forefront of your options list.

Canon EOS Rebel SL3 / EOS 250D

The EOS Rebel SL3 / EOS 250D blends a number of tried-and-tested features with a mount that accepts an endless array of lenses, and its small size, battery life and general performance are all solid.

Excellent battery life; Great Dual Pixel CMOS AF system; Small; light body with good handling; Touch controls implemented well; LCD is very responsive

Dated 9-point AF system; Awkwardly designed power control; 4K video crop and rolling shutter; Not a huge upgrade; Kit lens could be optically better

Canon EOS 250D Review

The Canon EOS 250D (called the Digital Rebel SL3 in North America) is the world's lightest DSLR camera with a movable screen. The 24.1 megapixel 250D / SL3 offers Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focusing with a whopping 143/3,975 AF points in live view mode and a more basic 9 AF points when using the optical...

Excellent camera and kit

The endless features, exceptional picture quality, lightweight and easy to use, the moveable lcd screen, menu and controls are simple to use, this camera never ceases to amaze me. I have always feared stepping up to a DSLR camera thinking they were bulky and heavy, and the increase in quality didn't...

Canon EOS 250D review (Rebel SL3): Back to basics

The key to a good entry-level DSLR is providing easy-to-use functions for those less skilled. Whether they are trying a DSLR for the first time or looking to progress from basic auto shooting to more creative work, the camera needs to provide a route in and a way to learn more.

Vari-angle touchscreen allows forward-facing view; Suits beginners and advanced shooters; Live view focus-tracking performs really well; In-camera effects and scene modes actually useful; Strong battery life

4K video requires cropping and suffers rolling shutter; AF points limited with viewfinder; Bulkier than mirrorless options

Canon EOS 250D Review

The Canon EOS 250D is the world's lightest DSLR with movable screen, the camera weighs just 449g with battery and memory card. Updating the EOS 200D, the 250D offers 4K video recording, a 24mp sensor, and is designed to be easy to use for beginners, as well as offering more advanced shooting.

Compact DSLR with vari-angle touch-screen; 24mp sensor with good noise performance; 4K video recording; Excellent colour reproduction; Easy to use menu system and controls

Only 9 AF points when using OVF; Slow continuous shooting in comparison to mirrorless cameras; No built-in panoramic shooting mode; Could be quicker access to controls

Quality camera. Worth the extra outlay.

Just a beginner. Wanted to learn and be able to take good photos and video. Studied reviews of this camera and just what I required starting out. Really pleased with the product and all it's accessories. Willing to learn how to use it properly which will take some time. Would recommend this camera.

Loving the step up from iphone.

Love the simplicity of this camera, it is really easy to set up and use, and an enjoyable first step up from the iphone. Really appreciate and recommend buying with the 75-300mm lense (for distance shots).
