Great fun with this 50mm lens.

Pros: Cons: Other thoughts: I purchased this lens to give our close up pictures that professional look. The low aperture of this lens allows for that great look, sharp and chrisp portraits with out of focus surroundings.

Good Lens

Overall good for the money. Honestly can't say its worth the extra 150 or so dollars over the f/1.8 version.

Good Sharpness; Great Bokeh and good for portraits and product photography

AF hunts A LOT; Soft at f/1.4 but corrects at f/1.6 and up; even though its USM it is still very noisy in my opinion and doesnt seem to be able to focus at the 1.5' as advertised the closest I can get is 3'; I might have gotten a bad copy, stil testing it may send it to Canon

Make The Investment

If like me, you are considering this lens versus the Canon 50mm f/1.8 I would consider buying this lens if you shoot a lot indoors or low light.

Excellent image quality; Excellent in low light; Fast focus

My Most Expensive Piece of Glass

I have just purchased my most expensive piece of glass yet. The Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 lens. Before owning this lens, I have owned The 50mm f/1.8 lens. I loved it, I shot my 2012 Graduation with it. However, it is a Prime Lens. So you must only have certain amount of Focal Length.

Beautiful Depth Of Field; Compact; Durable; Easy To Use; Large Aperture; Lightweight; Solid build quality

Expensive

Best Lenses For Portrait Photography

This is one of the best lenses for portrait photography, also being a value for money product. Moreover, improvements in the quality of the focused image and the beautiful natural blur of the background are simultaneously achieved.

Great Value - Fantastic results

If you are looking for a prime lens that is good value for money, stop and take a look at this Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens. This is truly an underrated lens. I have to admit after purchasing this lens (and I have several L series) that this is my favourite lens, especially on APS-C sensor cameras like...

Ive owned this lens for 2-3 years and while its been good for low light with a Canon 5dMk 2, its build quality and reliability has not been good. Problems with focus jamming and rough manual focus was intolarable. I regretted not paying a bit more and buying a Sigma 50mm F1.4.

lightweight and sharp

poor contrast wide open; plastic feel; poor auto focus; unreliable
