Bowers & Wilkins PI7 initial review: B&W goes true wireless at last

These true wireless in-ears are shaping up to be a class-leader in performance - but doalso come with a price point to match. We'll be reviewing them in full soon, but for now are very impressed with these earbuds' musicality and feature set.

Impressive sound; Can transmit audio from a non-wireless source via the case; Easy pairing; Neat design;

Can they justify the price?;

Bowers & Wilkins PI7 review

Bowers & Wilkins' debut true wireless buds are brilliant for reasons we weren't quite expecting, but we felt slightly let down in other areas that should be sewn up for the price you're paying. The retramission tech on the Bluetooth charging case is a fantastic idea that solves real world problems. The sound quality is exceptional and possibly the best we've heard yet from a pair of true wireless buds, and the build quality is as you would expect from Bowers & Wilkins. It's enough for us to score the Bowers & Wilkins PI7 top marks, but for the money we'd have like the ANC to be the best money can buy, but it isn't, and the battery life on the buds and charging case isn't anything special. If you decide you the Bowers and Wilkins PI7 are the buds for you, those soothing sounds could come in handy for the credit card bill. Just saying.

Exquisite sound quality; Clever Bluetooth charging case; Fantastic build quality;

Mediocre battery life; Really quite expensive ; No volume controls or EQ ;

Bowers & Wilkins PI7 Review

The Bowers & Wilkins PI7 noise-cancelling true wireless earphones have been in the works for quite a while, but 2020 being what it was, they faced multiple delays. Now that they're finally here, we must tackle the question we've been pondering for months now: Are these earphones worth $399? Sonically, they deliver deep bass and bright, detailed highs—each ear has two drivers, and this helps the audio achieve richness and definition. They also deliver very good ANC (active noise cancellation), certainly powerful enough to earn a spot among the top performers in this category. Our gripes are minor for the most part: there’s no user-adjustable EQ and the on-ear controls are a bit limited. Our main complaint is the price: $400 is a lot to pay for true wireless in-ears, even ones that promise hi-res audio playback. That said, if you're able to afford these earphones, we highly doubt you'll be disappointed.Luxurious Inside and Out Available in charcoal or white, the PI7 earpieces and ca...

The Bowers & Wilkins PI7 true wireless earphones deliver high-fidelity audio and high-quality noise cancellation in a luxurious package with a price to match.

Excellent audio performance with robust lows and detailed highs; Strong noise cancellation; Unique cable allows for streaming non-Bluetooth audio; Optimized for hi-res audio playback; Dust- and water-resistant design; Secure, comfortable fit

Expensive; No adjustable EQ; Charging cable is USB-C only

Bowers & Wilkins PI7 review: Top-end true wireless earbuds

These true wireless in-ears are a class-leader in audio performance - if you're willing to pay the weighty price ticket. They don't come with the best active noise-cancelling (ANC) out there, but it's still very good and backed up by truly awesome sonics. The wireless charging case is neat too, with Bluetooth transmission, so you can use it to connect a wired source to your headphones. A great debut in the field from Bowers & Wilkins.

Superb sound quality; Meaty 9.2mm balanced armature driver in each ear; Comfortable fit; Wireless charging case doubles as Bluetooth transmitter;

Active noise-cancelling (ANC) is good but not as advanced as others; Battery life is a little short; Your bank manager won't love you;
