Asus PB287Q display review: Don't expect miracles from this inexpensive 4K display

If you absolutely need an Ultra HD display to view large images or to work on 4K video, the Asus PB287Q is an affordable, serviceable option. It works best with a DisplayPort 1.2, so make sure that your existing hardware is compatible. James is the director of Macworld Lab.

Inexpensive; Ultra-high resolution

Limited viewing angles; Muted colors

Until recently, Sharp's $3500 PN-K321 was about as affordable as 4K desktop monitors got. But with the $649 PB287Q, Asus joins a handful of companies...

ASUS PB287Q 4K UHD 28-in Monitor Review

The growth and adoption of 4K resolution panels (most commonly 3840x2160) has really been the biggest story of the past year or so in the world of PC gaming. After a couple of TVs that ran at 3840x2160 over HDMI at 30 Hz found there way into our offices, the first real 60 Hz 4K monitor that I got...

Let's just start with the obvious. 4K is awesome for professionals. My raw 18-megapixel photos can almost be shown at 100 percent zoom on a 4K monitor, as opposed to a 1080p monitor that just shows a small portion (less than one-fourth).

Asus PB287Q

If you've been itching to buy an Ultra High-Definition (UHD) monitor, but have been waiting for prices to drop below the $1,000 mark, your wait is over. The Asus PB287Q ($649) impresses with its sharp UHD image quality, robust colors, and a generous feature set.

Relatively affordable; Outstanding Ultra High-Definition (UHD) image quality; Solid performance and feature set; Fast pixel response

Asus PB287Q Review

If you've been itching to buy an Ultra High-Definition (UHD) monitor, but have been waiting for prices to drop below the $1,000 mark, your wait is over. The Asus PB287Q ($649) impresses with its sharp UHD image quality, robust colors, and a generous feature set. It has an adjustable ergonomic stand, HDMI and DisplayPort video ports, Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) connectivity, and a couple of Low-Blue-Light settings. Add to that the fact that it does a remarkable job of displaying crystal-clear UHD content and can handle fast-action gaming smoothly and cleanly, and that's earns the PB287Q($613.99 at Staples) our first Editors' Choice for midrange UHD monitors. Design and Features Companies such as Asus, Dell, Lenovo, and Samsung are now offering 28-inch UHD monitors with a native resolution of 3,840 by 2,160 that are priced in the $650 to $750 range. Granted, they are based on twisted-nematic (TN) panel technology rather than the high-end Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide In-Plane Swi...

The Asus PB287Q is a reasonably priced 28-inch Ultra High-Definition monitor that delivers stunning 4K imagery and handles fast motion with aplomb.

Relatively affordable; Outstanding Ultra High-Definition (UHD) image quality; Solid performance and feature set; Fast pixel response

So-so viewing angle performance; Slightly skewed greens; No USB ports

Asus PB287Q 4K UHD 28 inch Monitor review

Kitguru says: The ASUS PB287Q isn't perfect, but for the price and the target audience, the many pros easily outweigh the cons.

Competitively priced; stand is heavy; well made and can rotate into portrait mode; 1ms GTG refresh; panel linearity is decent; image quality is high

TN panel can't compete with a quality IPS or IGZO panel; You may need to upgrade your graphics card for 4k gaming; power button is in a bad location
