I have three of these hard drives installed in my home server, and they are absolute beasts! I get read and write speeds of over 200MBps over my gigabit network, and even faster when transferring data within the server.

I have had Green drives running in a Drobo FS NAS for almost 5 years without any failure. I just got a Synology DS1515+ NAS so figured I'd stick with WD and try out the new fangled Reds in that. I put in 3 and so far so good: no errors, quiet, good performance.

Bought this, along with an ORICO SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to SATA Hard Drive Docking Station. Fast, quiet, huge capacity- has been very very useful!
It's an interesting decision - WD is expanding their low-power 3.5" hard drive offerings with a second line at the same time Seagate exists the "green" market, claiming low-power drives aren't really all that beneficial or quite frankly, special.
Best in class power consumption; Strongest sequential read and write performance; Suited perfectly for SOHO NAS environments

We have 45 of these drives that produces 135 TB of raw storage space. These have been reliable, fast and quiet in this unit. The first install of 30 of the drives was over 3 years ago. Only had to replace one drive in all that time!
I have a Linux NAS server with 12-3Tb drives. 11 are RAID6 and one is for OS and user account space. Note that this is not a production environment. It is only a home server with very light usage. I originally bought Seagate Model ST3000DM001-1CH166. 8 of them have failed since 2013 (4 years).
Western Digital has spotted a niche in the storage market. To its established range of hard-disk drives, it's added the WD Red , a new range aimed to fulfill the requirements of network-attached storage (NAS).
As Described
Bought a pair of these to use as a 3TB RAID 1 array for my NAS enclosure. They are fast, quiet, they run cool, and they are good value for money at £89 a piece. Also had nothing but good service from WD drives over the years, so am confident these will be the same.
WD Hard Drives have never given me problems - if this is still working flawlessly in five years I'll edit the review to give it the extra star.
