Use it for your NAS

Excellent hard drive for a home media center. I have this drive with next to an HGST Ultrastar and a WD enterprise drive and the WD Red is quieter, so if you have your media center in a place where people are, then the Red drives are a great option.

WD's Red drives are designed specifically with network attached storage devices in mind

WD's Red series of hard drives is designed to be used with network attached storage (NAS) devices, rather than in desktop computers. The drives are new additions to the company's already colourful internal drive line up, which includes the Blue series (for everyday computing), the Green series (for...

Great product for NAS

Bought 2 of the drive 3 days ago to upgrade my D-Link DNS323 server. It's like a breeze to replace two old 500 Seagate 500GB drives, and works right away. Noise level is much lower than previous Seagate drives. The new drives work quietly. After 3 days continuous work, it looks to be quite reliable.

3 out of 8 dead (replacement works fine for now)

Purchased 8 drives for two Sagate Black Armor NAS 400. One drive failed immediately and I sent it for replacement. Within a week, second died (just trying to spin on for few seconds after restart and that's it). Tryed to hook it up to three different system just to run S.M.A.R.T.

Excellent

I got this drive to use as a mass backup / storage using a bare drive adapter. It is fast and quiet. Would thoroughly recommend it.

NAS drive

Works well in the Raid5 Drobo it's set-up in. This one is actually a spare on the shelf. Have five others running in the Drobo without any issues.

Western Digital RED WD30EFRX 3TB SATA III HDD Review

There's no denying that the popularity of Network Attached Storage devices (or NAS Servers as i like to call them) has increased at such a degree over the past 3 years that even regular consumers purchase them for home use whether that's for downloading files from the internet or as media servers.

Quiet performers

I bought a pair of these a little over 12 months ago to go with my Synology DS213 and I'm very impressed. Not the fastest drives you can buy but they run very quietly and perform perfectly well for their intended application.
