Excellent hard drive for a home media center. I have this drive with next to an HGST Ultrastar and a WD enterprise drive and the WD Red is quieter, so if you have your media center in a place where people are, then the Red drives are a great option.

Bought 2 of the drive 3 days ago to upgrade my D-Link DNS323 server. It's like a breeze to replace two old 500 Seagate 500GB drives, and works right away. Noise level is much lower than previous Seagate drives. The new drives work quietly. After 3 days continuous work, it looks to be quite reliable.
Bought 4 Red's all have been working well so far.
Purchased 8 drives for two Sagate Black Armor NAS 400. One drive failed immediately and I sent it for replacement. Within a week, second died (just trying to spin on for few seconds after restart and that's it). Tryed to hook it up to three different system just to run S.M.A.R.T.
I got this drive to use as a mass backup / storage using a bare drive adapter. It is fast and quiet. Would thoroughly recommend it.
Works well in the Raid5 Drobo it's set-up in. This one is actually a spare on the shelf. Have five others running in the Drobo without any issues.

I bought a pair of these a little over 12 months ago to go with my Synology DS213 and I'm very impressed. Not the fastest drives you can buy but they run very quietly and perform perfectly well for their intended application.
