Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art

Ultra-wide lenses aren't everyday tools for most photographers, but for some disciplines they're indispensable. I tend to recommend zooms at this end of the coverage range, as they're more versatile tools, giving you the ability to capture a wider variety of subjects without changing lenses.

Ultra-wide field of view; Very bright aperture; Very sharp; Solid build; Dust and splash protection; Available for multiple camera systems

Some barrel distortion; Soft edges and corners at wide apertures; Dim corners; Doesn't support front filters

Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Review

This is an in-depth review of the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art lens that was announced in February of 2017 along with a few other Sigma Art-series lenses. At the time of its release, Sigma proudly presented the lens as "world's first and only full-frame f/1.8 ultra-wide-angle lens", which was without...

A Great Superwide

This lens offers something other super-wides do not - a fast aperture! This separates it from the other super-wide products. It offers minimal vignetting for such a wide and fast lens and minimal coma - great for astronomy. I had no flare issues while imaging throughout the August 2017 eclipse.

Great value with kit and fantastic clarity!

This is a great kit combination, mainly because it includes the USB doc, and the cleaning kit. The lens is suberb! I use super wide angle lenses mainly for astrophotography and I was worried about coma which is a serious problem with most lenses.

Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM ART (Canon) - Review / Test

So Sigma went where no man has gone before ... again. This time we'll explore the new Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM ART. Typically such ultra-wide lenses peak at a speed of (warp ... ah no ...) f/2/8.

Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art

The Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art lens stole the headlines as the first ultra-wide angle lens for full-frame cameras to break the f/2 barrier. No other ultra-wide angle rectilinear lens is as fast. Fast ultra-wide angle lenses are a rarity and your choices in this category are few.

Sigma's Art line-up has fast become one of the most highly regarded lens ranges on the planet. That's why we're excited to see the world's first 14mm f/1.8 prime, with an ultra wide-angle and fast aperture which could make it every astrophotographer's dream.

Very capable lens

A very capable lens giving very pleasing results. It does however take some time to master but in a good way as I think after practice will be a favourite in my bag. Central frame is extremely sharp and perfect for stars and night scenes. Edge focus washes out quickly but also crops out easily.

Consistent Output; Durable; Quick Focus; Rugged; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction

Needs a little practice to find the sweet spot

Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Lens Review

Sigma has been breaking ground with many lenses in their Art series and the review-time-latest groundbreaker is this one, the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 Art Lens. The big deal this time While there are numerous lenses covering the 14mm focal length available, no full frame lens wider than 20mm ( another Art...

Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art Review

The Sigma 14mm F1.8 DG HSM Art ($1,599) is a lens that has a lot of appeal for photographers working in certain disciplines—notably astrophotography—thanks to its ultra-wide field of view and bright aperture. You'll be able to focus much more easily in dim conditions because of its f/1.8 design, ensuring that stars and night landscapes are crisp. It's not as good of an all-arounder as another lens from Sigma, the 12-24mm F4 DG HSM Art, but if your images require a brighter aperture, the 14mm prime is an excellent choice. Design The 14mm F1.8 ($1,498.00 at Amazon) is big. It measures 5.0 by 3.8 inches (HD) and weighs 2.5 pounds. In order to capture images with such a wide field of view and bright aperture, its front element is huge and bulbous, so you can't use front filters without a third-party accessory holder. A slip-on lens cap is included to protect both the front glass and integrated lens hood, and Sigma also includes a rear cap and soft carrying case. Construction is solid,...
