I just installed two of these (4TB) drives early 12/18 so they've only been in my NAS for about a month. I'll try to remember to revisit this review in 12/19 with an update. I will add right now that I'm happy that my QNAP incorporates the IronWolf Health Management app so I should receive warnings...
i have been using this hard drive for a few months it does the job relatively quick but just a tad noisy if you don't mind hearing a clicking noise then its a great product.
bought 4 drives and a spare... 5000 hours later not a single issue. They run fast and have been reliable so far on my NAS, desktop drives have let me down in a shorter time frame
I brought 2 of these to go in a new NAS unit. Have worked well with no problems.
Works great in our Synology 4 bay NAS.The NAS is Like a new lease on life. With tons of space, we're moving our old DVD archive routine onto the NAS. When a drive fails (which it will) more Iron Wolfs will replace with no down time or data loss.
Couple weeks in. So far so good. Installed into my home NAS. Overall temp and volume went down which is reassuring. Nothing else to add :)
- I purchased these over the WD Red's due to the newer design and features. The aging WD Red drives are still priced at a premium and I got these on a deal with a coupon code for a bit less.
- Runs Cool - Basically silent - Great if you're looking for solid storage drives and prefer low noise, low power, and low heat to 7200RPM performance; I have SSD's for performance so I prefer the former for my desktop RAID1 storage needs
- This is a new drive model so reliability is unknown; That said, I think Seagate has learned their lesson, and this isn't exactly a low tier desktop drive; I'll keep my eye on them but I'm not worried
What's not to love After I got it, I performed a full SMART test on it along with a data read/write surface test which it sailed through both. I usually wait 2 months before committing any trust to a hard drive to hold data. This it has done now with no errors what-so-ever.
