Defective lens

I just bought this lens. It's great in the middle and on the right. However, the far left is way off. See for yourself here. http://flic.kr/p/iHQW62 I'll have to see about getting another copy. Assuming I get a good one, then I'll keep the 2 stars just for the hassle. Otherwise zero.

Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Aspherical - Full Format Review / Test Report

Upon first contact you will experience two immediate drawbacks - the lens does not offer AF nor any "native" coupling apart from the Canon EF-compatible mount. Consequently you have to focus manually either by checking the viewfinder image or by using Live-View.

Incredible lens

Such a wideangle lens is obviously of most use for landscape photographers. This product is very solid, well made and optically it is superb. No vigneting and whilst there is some "Moustache" distortion, this is easily fixed in Lightroom or Photoshop.

Durable; Great Picture Quality; Simple Controls

Completely Manual

Great performance for a low price

Great lens. Very good price, and nice build quality. The lens is quite sharp with good colour reproduction. The only fault is a large amount of barrel distortion, but it's something to live with as it's somewhat correctable.

Wonderfully sharp lens

Wonderfully sharp lens. Helps in creating completely different perspective in making architecture pictures and pictures with cloudy skies. The 270 degree aperture ring with distances marked is useful for manual focus. Would have loved to see some electronics to control aperture.

Ultra happy for wide angle Samyang

Easy to use - it's all manual, both aperture and distance. Gives these really dramatic picture, that includes..., so good for interior photography and the storytelling pics - lots of elements. As it is a F2.8 my aim is to use for event photography (concerts etc.).

Ease of Use; Nice Bokeh

Difficult to Clean; Manual Focus

Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC Lens Review

Although this basic lens may not be for everyone, those looking for an ultra-wide lens, which is capable of delivering excellent quality when used within its limitations can't go far wrong with this 14mm from Samyang.

Extremely inexpensive; Excellent sharpness in the centre at f/2.8 and across the frame when stopped down to f/5.6 or beyond; Good build; Relatively lightweight; Extremely low CA levels

Wavy distortion; Falloff of illumination towards the corners; No hyperfocal scale or hard infinity stop

Excellent full-frame lens for Sony A7

This is a rare combination of quality imaging, value and speed. Nothing else comes close. Is the lens perfect?. No lens is perfect but this lens is better than lenses costing far more.

Easily Corrected; Good Construction; Good Contrast; Low Light Capability; Sharp; Superior Performance

It's a great lens. there is a lot of distortion

It's a great lens. there is a lot of distortion, but it's possibile to compensate using Camera Raw. Buy yhis just if you know how to work in iperfocal.
