Olympus has always been an innovative camera brand. For 63 years it has stuck to one mission – that of miniaturising. My first camera, an 11th birthday present in 1969, was an Olympus Pen EE, which squeezed 72 pictures on to a 36-exposure roll of 35mm film.

Since its debut last year, the Olympus OM-D E-M5 has won many accolades and numerous awards – and it's easy to see why: this is a camera with a wealth of features, catering to ambitious photographers who are looking to reduce the size and weight of their gear without sacrificing quality.

At the end of my nostalgic journey with the first member of the digital OM family, I walked away finding solace in the fact that the Olympus OM-D EM-5 is my favorite Micro Four Thirds camera released to date.

Olympus has been a leader in the Compact System Camera revolution, and the OM-D E-M5 will solidify that position. It is a good-looking, well-designed, highly capable camera. I recommend the 12-50 mm zoom lens with the body, which currently lists for £1,149 for the kit.

This past weekend I was able to spend time with some folks from Olympus to pick up an OM-D E-M5 for review. I get to play with a lot of cameras due to my job running Photo.net, and that's something I appreciate. But there are cameras and there are "cameras!

One of the first things I check when testing a new camera is the ISO sensitivity. Good low-light performance is something I need for my job as one of the two official photographers at the National Cinema Museum in Turin , Italy.

This camera was designed for the shutterbug, especially the street photographer. With it's high speed, great low-light performance, and exceptional build quality, the OMD EM-5 is definitely on the short list of cameras to consider, and as such the OMD EM-5 is easily an Editor's Choice in my opinion.

At first glance, you could be excused in thinking the Olympus M5 is an old camera. Funny thing, you would be partially correct – the current model is a technology and stylistic upgrade from an Olympus camera from 1973.
