Best Portrait Lens for DX Format camera

This is surely a must have lens especially if you want to take portrait pictures of your kids.....blur/bokeh is superb and performs very well in low light conditions. A all time lens for my Nikon D5200.......

Consistent Output; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Nice Bokeh

Nikon 35mm f/1.8G DX AF-S Nikkor

A small, fast and sharp prime f??r $200 or less you can't go wrong. There are better performing lenses out there, but they are all larger and more expensive. The only reason I traded away this lens is the focal length. IMHO, 35 mm is too short for portraits and too long for most other situations.

small; light; sharp; affordable

no weather seal; focal length a bit too long

This is a very useful lens with its brightness and optical quality. The 35mm is much more useful on Dx format than the 50mm according to my liking. Highly recommended !See in more detail at:http://oldshutterhand.com/equipment-reviews/nikon-35-1-8/http://oldshutterhand.com/nikon-lenses/

I would say for this lens in Nikon system as a "Must have" if you have a budget for it and like to shoot low light and indoors; Would be happy if Canon can offer something similar; Very sharp even wide open; 35mm f1.8 Dx I don't think is a micro

Build quality not up to pro standards; but for this price no complain

Brilliant little lens

Bought this for my Nikon D5100, auto focus is fast, quiet and accurate. Brilliant in low light due to the f1.8 and very sharp, its sharp wide open and at it's sharpest around f3.5 to f4. Depth of field is fantastic and looks great. Brilliant for portraits especially in doors.

Very light; fast AF; large maximum aperture; great for in doors; great for low light with no flash

Nikon 35mm f/1.8G DX AF-S Nikkor review by Tord

I bought this lens quite a while back, for my V1, and it has been a delight, from the very first day. Sharp, light, and compact, what more could you ask for?! On my V1 it became a fast portrait lens, first and foremost, while on the D3200 it became my kit lens, always on it.

Sharp as a needle; nice focusing speed; low cost; low weight

No weather-sealing

Awesome lens

After reading some reviews on different sites, I decided to purchase this lens. I am so glad that I did. The 1.8 aperture is AMAZING! The focus is decently fast and unlike the kit lenses, you can manually adjust the focus after it has been auto set.

Results are just amazing for what you pay!

"I didn't really expect as much from this lense when I first bought it. But I wanted something a bit wider to shoot than 50mm. I brought it to a concert thinking ""oh, it's not going to be as sharp as my 50mm 1.4, but I need something wider."" So I went for it.
