Nikon D7000

Rather than a genuine replacement for the D90-which is in theory going to see out its days at the end of the year-or a way out for the D300s, the D7000 is carving out its own niche

Great build quality; 100% viewfinder; Excellent control of electronic noise up to 3200 ISO; Burst mode reaches 6 fps and autofocus is fast; Stabilised kit lens a real all-rounder; Wireless control over external flash

Video mode not quite up there and autofocus could still be faster; Normal quality JPEGs lack a bit of oomph; Fixed LCD screen; No headphone output to listen back to sound; Capture NX2 software sold separately but the best way to enjoy RAW photos

The first thing you'll notice if you're stepping up from a Nikon D3100 or D5100 is the build quality of the Nikon D7000 and the magnesium alloy construction contributes to a high-end, resilient feel in the hand.

Nikon D7000 18-105 VR Kit review

The Nikon D90 was – and still is – one of our favourite SLRs, with sublime ergonomics and equally alluring photo quality. It was the first SLR to record video, but two years on, its 720p resolution and five-minute maximum recording time look old-fashioned.

great for beginners looking to upgrade!

I'm a fairly new photographer (hobbyist but hoping to get more serious about it) and wanted to upgrade from the little D3200 I learned on. I'm very happy about going with this model. It's definitely a step up, but if you know what you're doing, it takes no time at all to get used to the D7000.

Excellent entry level DSLR

I use this camera mostly for landscape and wildlife
photography. It has great battery life, even in cold weather.
It is a bit heavy, but that certainly is not a deal breaker.

WOW - NIKON D7000!

I've been a NIKON user since the "days of Tri-X and Dektol" (most users will have absolutely no idea what I am talking about) - however - the D7000 "puts my Nikon Collection of camera bodies and lenses to shame! A fabulous product! [...

I am very satisfied with my D7000

Actually the D7000 incorporates all the details he had noticed that he was missing my D90. I am very satisfied with the purchase and also to have renewed my camera, to achieve more and more beautiful photos.
