Nikon D7000 [Review]

Nikon describes this DX model as a "professional-standard camera" … not a professional camera. One giveaway is the onboard flash...

Nikon D7000

The Nikon D7000 is a top-notch enthusiast-aimed SLR. It offers great overall image quality and is built like a tank.

A very good camera, 10 points, it can not because then you can of course not be better. Have shot with the camera since April 2011, previously had a D80. The difference in the dynamic range of the D80 is very large, perhaps up to 2 stages. Autofocus is fast and usually accurate but not always.

From the ISO chart comparison, we noticed slight softening and significant visible noise from ISO 1600 onwards. Given the DX format CMOS sensor, this is rather impressive. At extended ranges (ISO H.03 – H2.0), noise are extremely noticeable at full resolution. Is the Nikon D7000 worth getting

Looking at the new Nikon D7000's specs, you might be right to confuse the newest DX DSLR as a replacement for the Nikon D300s at first blush. After all, it features many of the same specs, as well as some new features and flat-out improvements to Nikon's DX line of cameras.

Nikon D7000 review: Nikon D7000

Editors' note, May 12, 2015: I've updated the ratings to more accurately reflect how this older model fits into the current market at its lower price and with respect to its subsequent replacements. Additionally, I've revoked the Editors' Choice, originally conferred in November 2010, to make way for newer models.

An excellent dSLR for experienced shooters or Nikon professionals looking for a relatively cheap option, the Nikon D7000 delivers on almost all counts, including the company's best shooting design to date.

Excellent performance for its class; great viewfinder; control locations and operations streamlined over previous Nikon dSLRs; double SDXC-compatible card slots.

No 1080/30p video.
