Camera failed

I was most disappointed. After falling in love with the features of this camera, I found an awesome price, and bought it with much anticipation. I got it home, took 12 pictures, turned it off, to find the flash would not retract. I read other reviews of hardware failures, and decided to return it.

over priced with poor results

bought as a back-up for use in well lit action situations, I assumed that Nikons pedigree would stand me in good stead. Boy was I wrong! Even in bright sunlight, fast action was blurredand shutter lag made the sports mode un-usable.

Unacceptable zoom noise when recording video!

This camera works well for everything except video. I'm sorry but when recording, zooming in or out is not an option because of the annoying sound that's recorded with the video.

Nikon Coolpix S9300 review

For years we've moaned and groaned about camera manufacturers raising the megapixel ratings of cameras, something that gives extra detail that we don't particularly need and extra noise that we definitely don't want.

Fair

Excellent picture quality, but extremely hard to keep still when trying to take a telephoto picture, wavers a lot. Disappointed too that the flash does not retract automatically.

The Nikon S9300 is the latest in the company's line of compact travel-zoom point-and-shoot cameras. The S9300 combines an 18x optical zoom, 3-inch high resolution screen, and backside-illuminated 16-megapixel CMOS image sensor in a body that is no thicker than your average compact camera.

Nikon Coolpix S9300

The Nikon Coolpix S9300 ($349.95 direct) manages to pack a sharp 18x zoom lens into its compact body, but the 16-megapixel camera is slow to start and image quality suffers greatly at even modest ISO settings.

Sharp lens; 6fps burst shooting; GPS; Good control layout

Muddy images at medium ISO settings; Slow to start

Keen to establish a foothold in the travel zoom market, Nikon has launched the Coolpix S9300, which replaces the year-old Nikon Coolpix S9100 and competes with the new Panasonic TZ30 (and its predecessor the TZ20) and the Canon PowerShot SX260 HS.

Nikon Coolpix S9300 review

Back in 2006, Panasonic introduced the digital travel zoom compact camera with its Lumix DMC-TZ1 . Ever since, travel zooms have acquired increasingly longer zooms and ever smaller bodies.
