The 42x optical zoom with auto stabilization is very impressive

Most of the zoom is useless for 3D photos; Also, this camera can only take 3D still shots by panning the camera sideways to take two shots and combine them, which means moving objects can't be properly captured

Competition in the bridge camera market at the moment is pretty fierce. It's one of the only growing segments in the compact camera market, as users look for something much more advanced than their phone, especially in regards to zoom functionality.

Nikon has done a great job with ultra zoom cameras in the past, and the Coolpix P520 is another very strong camera.

It was love at first sight! Totally smitten! Pulled the P520 out of its unassuming box and there it was: a gleaming vision in deep cherry red. At the outset, the red base colour and overlaid control ID texts picked out in white made everything abundantly clear … much better than the usual white text...

I love it. Great quality in every photo and amazing zoom! But if your looking to film something then its not so good, but only when you zoom. It makes a loud and annoying zzz noise. But lverall if you want to use this camera for photography then its great.

There are focus problems when using the self timer and in movie mode. If you start the movie recording, and then step in front of the camera, it mostly focuses on the back wall and your face is fuzzy. The camera never seems to recover. This is very bad (come on Nikon).

Everything is relative so I will be comparing Nikon's Coolpix P250 to its main competitor the Canon SX50 (they sell for the same price)

What Nikon did wrong

I bought this to replace a previous Fuji Film point & shoot camera that died. I'm still learning many of the features on this camera. I took it out with me in the kayak today and got some fabulous pictures of a loon nesting. I had to Zoom in quite a ways to get some close ups of her.
