iPad Pro 9.7 review: damn the torpedoes

So said Tim Cook at the introduction of the new iPad Pro 9.7 last week. It's exactly the kind of phrase you expect from Cook's Apple: spoken humbly, but revealing a huge ambition. It mixes a thing that's familiar (the good ol' iPad) with an idealistic goal.

Fast; True Tone display; Great camera

Expensive; Smart Keyboard needs some work; Reach slightly exceeds its computing grasp

9.7-inch iPad Pro

The first thing to note about the 9.7-inch iPad is that it isn't a replacement for your laptop – no matter how much Apple wants you to believe it is. However, there's no doubt this is the finest tablet Apple has ever made.

True Tone display is stunning; Perfect size; Apple Pencil is great; Stong tablet ecosystem; Power to get things done

Expensive; 32GB option isn't enough space; iOS could be better

iPad Pro 9.7-inch (2016) - Make iPad great again

On paper, the 9.7-inch is iPad Pro is more of the same. It's another yearly refresh that adds faster hardware and a few new features. While these features might not really seem like major additions, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro plays host to a number of small-but-meaningful changes that can improve the...

True Tone display is fantastic; Apple Pencil; Lightning fast performance

More expensive than ever; Camera bump; Smart Keyboard is underwhelming

Apple iPad Pro?9.7-inch

iPad Pro is truly evolving into a platform. While the iPad mini and older iPad Air devices will continue to offer all the great content consumption features and still be the best tablets on the planet, the iPad Pro line can focus on more serious and mission critical applications.

iPad Pro 9.7

Apple is slowly transforming its iPad into a 2-in-1, and while this new tablet may not be a laptop replacement, it's more than simply an iPad Air 3. It's best used with pro-level accessories like the Smart Keyboard and Pencil, but it gets even more expensive.

Easy to handle; True Tone display is gorgeous; 256GB configuration

iOS shows its limitations; Expensive starting price; Optional keyboard isn't backlit

Apple 9.7in iPad Pro review: a PC killer or a viable new alternative

Apple is targeting the iPad Pro device category at people that it wants to rescue from the trauma of using PCs. With the iPad Pro 9.7in, it achieves this in some respects, but not all.

Apple iPad Pro 9.7 review

Apple thinks it's created the 'ultimate PC replacement' and while we're not convinced, the new iPad Pro 9.7 is still one of the best tablets you can buy.

Apple iPad Pro 9.7 Tablet Review

Apple once again offers an excellent product with the iPad Pro 9.7, which convinces with familiar virtues and suffers from old quirks. We get a great display, good battery runtimes, best cameras in a tablet, eSIM support, optional support for the Apple Pencil or a Smart Keyboard.

very good display; stable Wi-Fi; Apple SIM (eSIM; great GPS module; good speakers; good battery runtimes; fast SoC

NFC only for Apple Pay; power adapter is too weak and gets hot under load; storage of the 32 GB version is slower; no quick-charge; long loading times; high price
