Xiaomi Mi Band 2 review: The best cheap fitness tracker money can buy

With a new OLED screen the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 offers better value than ever. We'd like to see better integration with third-party apps, but at this price the Mi Band 2 is impossible to fault.

Xiaomi Mi band 2 Review

I have been rather impressed with Gear4 products. I have been lucky enough to check out a few of their iPhone cases and have always found that they manage a nice balance between being very rugged, but not massively overbuilt.

It's good value for money, sometimes the heart rate monitor feature can be a bit buggy if you don't have it on exactly right. Revising review as of 14/01/2019 as the app now completely fails to accurately track gps and customer service is no helping at all. Essentially making the band useless.

Xiaomi Mi Band 2 review

The Xiaomi Mi Band has been an international fitness trackers hit, and for good reason – the range has been so cheap you might as well give them a go, and people have in their millions.

Light; comfortable; Screen + good battery life; Sleep tracking works

Prices vary; hard to get hold of; Still not a reliable tracker; App doesn't motivate

Xiaomi Mi Band 2 review: A super low-cost heart rate fitness band, but it's got its limits

With the Xiaomi's Mi Band 2, the Chinese company updates its original $13 fitness tracker with a slightly more expensive version, adding new features such as an 0.42-inch OLED display and a heart rate sensor. The 149 yuan price, which converts to around $22, £17 or AU$29, is a fraction of what you'd pay for similar products such as the Fitbit Alta...or, even, Fitbit's less-expensive Zip. It's not yet on sale on Xiaomi's US website.

If you just want a basic fitness tracker for walking, the Mi Band 2 does the job fine, but you'll have to look towards more expensive trackers if you want more features.

The Mi Band 2 is absurdly affordable despite packing in a heart rate sensor; sleep tracking; water resistance and a battery life of a week.

The fitness band doesn't offer the exercise tracking that would make it a perfect accessory.
