Works as advertised

This is an early review of this item. I've had it for about 2 weeks and so far no real issues. Simply plug it in with the supplied USB cable and away you go. The only thing I don't like about the drive is that it spins down and goes to sleep when not in use and there seems to be no settings available to keep it awake. This might be a pain for anyone using it as a media drive.

WD100EMAZ white labelled Red NAS drives

For those interested, the drives inside these enclosures are 10tb WD100EMAZ, 5400rpm, made in Thailand, which are a white labelled version of the WD Red drives. Didn't seem to have the 3.3v pin issue either. Good value for money.

Great price - huge amount of space

I bought this to replace an over 15 year old USB2 1.5TB desktop HDD. I've only had it for a few weeks, but I'm already enjoying the extra space on the drive and the extra speed of USB3 (over USB2 of my old drive). Mostly the drive is very quiet, but occasionally you can hear the drive being accessed (which is the only reason I haven't given this 5 stars). I've always used WD external HDDs, and so far all have been very reliable over a very long period of time. I would definitely recommend this drive.

Great out of the box, but will it go the distance?

So far so good, although it has only been a couple of weeks since I purchased this drive. It is connected as a Time Machine drive to an iMac that gets a TON of usage, hence this drive will need to work reliably for about 50-60 hours per week for the next three years to really prove itself. Alas, the 4TB Seagate Expansion drive that I purchased from JB Hi Fi in late November 2020 failed to last one full year under these conditions, so it will be interesting to see if the Western Digital goes further.

Just works

It’s the best value 10Tb drive available. I have bought many WD drives over the years and they have proven very reliable. Once again, I’m happy with this one because it does what it’s supposed to. I use it to back up my Mac and connected drives.
