UE Megablast – Now with Spotify voice commands

If you're on the hunt for a deafeningly loud, nigh-indestructible Bluetooth speaker that's perfect for garden and pool parties you'll struggle to do better than the UE Megablast. The Megablast is the successor to the Megaboom, and it's the largest speaker in UE's current range.

Stupidly loud; Decent sound for the money; Long battery life

Bass can be overpowering; Alexa smart functions are a little hit and miss

Ultimate Ears Megablast review: Bigger. Louder. Smarter.

Bigger. Better. Smarter. That’s the short version of the pitch for Ultimate Ears new Blast and Megablast smart speakers.

If you’re looking for that on-the-go Alexa speaker and like it loud, you’ll probably like the sound of this one.

Great volume; Good battery life;

Portable Alexa is a little clunky; Can't easily pair speakers;

Ultimate Ears recently released a new product on the market, the UE Blast Bluetooth wireless speaker . But this isn't your ordinary Bluetooth and wireless speaker; it features voice control and delivers innovative ways of listening to your favourite tunes.

Ultimate Ears Megablast Review

Ultimate Ears has been established as the leader of portable Bluetooth speakers in the market with their Boom line. This includes their Megaboom and Boom 2 speakers. Now, the company's hitting the smart market space by adding voice control and Wi-Fi connectivity to their latest Blast family.

No power

This is the second one I have had in a month. After using it three times for about an hour total it no longer turns on. I took the first one back after two days. This one I have had a month and no power. It's great when it works. I'll be taking this one back also.

UE Megablast wireless speaker

ImageTagInstance gallery-c4d69082-4431-4663-b716-efe1a054f929 The portable Bluetooth speaker market is absolutely overflowing with options, but actual competition often comes down to a handful of brands. Ultimate Ears started out creating tailor-made earphones for popular touring bands to use while on stage. Later acquired by Logitech, UE transitioned into the Bluetooth speaker market and quickly made a name for itself among the top competitors. Speakers like the original Megaboom, which touted “intensely rich sound” and deep bass to match, as well as the ability to daisy-chain over 100 devices, served to make their speakers a fan favorite. But does the Alexa-toting, Wi-Fi-enabled Megablast deliver on the “thundering bass” and “stunning clarity” the company promises? Or, at $300, does it yield to more established competitors?Design ImageTagInstance gallery-60f8048c-0844-4314-b9df-68c8752a78ec The Megablast uses the same cylindrical design that UE has employed for years. Sturdy IP67 water-resistant build; Loud, crisp highs and mids; Alexa integration;

Could use more low-end bass response; On-device music streaming over Wi-Fi offers needs better services; Companion app could use a bit more functionality; Cannot daisy-chain as you can with Megaboom;

Ultimate Ears Blast and Megablast Review: High-End Portable Bluetooth Speakers, But They Won't Replace Your Echo

From my experience, the Blast and Megablast have two main drawbacks. The first is price. At $230 and $298 for the Blast and Megablast, respectively, they are expensive. You can buy a range of other quality portable Bluetooth speakers, both rugged or elegant, for less.

Ultimate Ears Megablast: The best Alexa speaker?

Most smart speakers require a power lead and cannot be taken on-the-go, but the Ultimate Ears Megablast is different; it has a built-in battery and is waterproof, so you can play your favourite songs by the pool, ask Alexa the weather and even order goods with your voice.

Waterproof; Beautiful design and build quality; Overall sound quality

Expensive; Lacks Alexa calling abilities; No Spotify streaming over Wi-Fi
