Tribit StormBox Micro BTS10 review: The more affordable micro Bluetooth speaker

Highly portable and IP67 rated; Good sound for a small speaker; A lot cheaper than the competition;

Mid-range could use a bit more definition ;

Tribit StormBox Micro speaker review: A pocket-size Bluetooth speaker with surprisingly big sound

Over the years Tribit has made some of the better budget portable Bluetooth headphones and speakers, starting with its XFree Tune and XSound Go, respectively. The latter speaker is still around and delivers surprisingly good sound for less than $30. The larger MaxSound Plus ($60) gives you more bass and volume and the StormBox ($52) is Tribit's more affordable take on such popular speakers as the UE Boom and JBL Flip 5. Now it's doing a budget version of Bose's excellent SoundLink Micro speaker. The smaller model is called the StormBox Micro and it's one of the best-sounding pocket-size speakers I've heard. It retails for around $50.

The $50 speaker is one of the best-sounding pocket-size portable Bluetooth models we've tested.

Very compact (pocket-friendly); More bass and volume than most speakers this small; Waterproof and dustproof (IP67); Integrated strap; Can be linked to another StormBox Micro for stereo mode; USB-C charging; 8 hours of battery life;

Not as durable as Bose SoundLink Micro; Distorts slightly at higher volumes with certain tracks;

Tribit StormBox Micro Review

For a tiny Bluetooth speaker, the $50 Tribit StormBox Micro has plenty to offer. It’s fully waterproof, has a built-in tear-resistant strap, and can work as a speakerphone. It also sounds quite good for its size, with reasonably rich low-mids and lows paired with crisp, clear vocals. There’s little to complain about here, but there’s also little that separates the StormBox Micro from other affordable portable speakers like the $60 Sony SRS-XB13 and the $40 JBL Go 3.Small and Rugged Available in black or orange, the StormBox Micro measures 3.9 by 3.9 by 1.4 inches (HWD) and weighs 9.1 ounces, with a rounded square shape. Its exterior is fabric with matte silicone; the fabric grille covers an upward-facing 9-watt mono driver and holds a set of minimal controls. A central multifunction button covers playback, track navigation, call management, and voice assistants depending on how many taps or longer presses you give it, and plus/minus buttons adjust volume. The bottom panel houses r...

Tribit StormBox Micro review: River-tested, ears-approved

A series of events happened in near-perfect succession: One weekend, I rediscovered my love of river floating, a relaxing, socially distant activity that shines as one of the more enjoyable things to do on a warm summer Sunday afternoon. The key ingredient missing was good, easy-listening music. I had Bluetooth speakers, but none that I would confidently take near the water. So, the next week, when my editor told me I’d be editing the $50 Tribit StormBox Micro portable Bluetooth speaker, I couldn’t wait to get started. The packaging, much like the speaker itself, is quite small. Accordingly, the contents of said packaging are minimal; there’s the StormBox Micro, a USB-C charging cable, and a quick start guide. That’s essentially it, and honestly that’s all you really need. The setup process is almost nonexistent. Simply power the speaker on via the button on the side of the Micro, hold the Bluetooth button right next to it for two seconds, and the Micro will enter pairing mode. From th...
