Manufacturers tell me that wireless extenders are big sellers. I suppose it's no wonder, since most everyone wishes their Wi-Fi coverage were better than it is. Most extenders, however, have one major weakness-they reduce the bandwidth of the "extended" signal by half.

We look at the WPA4220, a hybrid Powerline Wi-Fi extender from TP-LINK. Read on as Tyler tells us all about the kit and if it's worth buying or not.

TP-Link TL-WPA4220KIT Powerline Wireless Extender

Notebook computers may have popularized wireless networking in homes and business, but in the past few years the surge in mobile computing on smartphones and tablets has turned that convenience into a requirement.

The TP-Link TL-WPA4220KIT worked as described. In a matter of minutes I had unpacked, configured and extended my home network. In my previous review, the TL-WA850RE gave a stronger signal boost but this kit at least lets me use my electrical circuit to get wireless to areas previously not possible...

A good extension to an existing wireless or homeplug network

I already have a homeplug network with WAPs in my home but needed another couple of devices to ensure full coverage, I was working to a budget and this pair fitted the requirement and the cost envelope.

Brilliant

I only had one bar wireless signal on my iPad in the bedroom YouTube was stopping and starting once these were set up I had full signal YouTube is perfect now and for some strange reason when I do a speed test I'm getting around 0.5 mb more than I should brilliant kit.

simple setup (no set up required other than pairing) looks good and works as expected; none

Works well

Extends my wireless thru the house, when purchased in tandem with the TP link Archer. You can even name this wireless separately or the same as your main. Just be aware, it is one device connected with Lan cable to your main wireless and another connecting thru your power system in your house and...

Decent niche item

This seems to be a niche product to me. If you don't have any powerline adapters at all this product isn't for you. You must already have a powerline setup, need wifi coverage in a remote area of your home that's too far away for a standard wifi extender to be used, that's also not too far away to...

Plug and play with WPS Adds wifi in 'dead spots' in your home where a standard wifi range extender won't work; Can be configured as a separate wifi AP 2 year warranty 2 wired ports Led's not overly bright

Throughput is governed by the powerline signal strength; Meaning if you don't have a good connection via powerline it won't matter that you can get up to 300mbps wifi; How good this product is will depend on your home's wiring and how far away you place it from your other adapter that is connected...
