Suunto 7 review

At £430, the Suunto 7 ain’t cheap, and it even manages to out-price the latest Apple Watch by around thirty quid. It’s attractive and comfortable though, and comes packed with all the sports tracking tech you’re likely to need, with a solid battery life, depending on how hard you push it. Still, you can pick up something like a Garmin Venu for around half the price, and that can last up to five days on a single charge. The Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 has a similar battery life to the Suunto 7, but is again, cheaper, with a slimmer, less chunky build, which you may prefer. If you’re a fan of the Suunto 7’s sporty, rugged looks, and want comprehensive sports tracking without being fussed about regular charging, then this could very well be the niche-filling wristwear you’re after. For everyone else though, you’re better off saving some cash and springing for something a little more wallet friendly.

Attractive, solid build; Bright, sharp, punchy screen; Comprehensive sports tracking; Hardware buttons with handy shortcuts;

Expensive; Daily charging with heavier use;

Suunto 7 review

Great if you want a beautiful smartwatch and basic stats on your multi-sport life. However, this does require compromise as the Suunto 7 suffers from middling battery life that puts the brakes on extreme adventures Suunto is renowned for, and some baffling design choices that limits what would be an amazing piece of kit.

Terrific physical design; Screen is beautiful; Fast and responsive; Runs Wear OS;

Screen can chew through the battery; Have to juggle both Suunto app and Google Fit; Sports can’t be customised

Suunto 7 review

The Suunto 7 is a capable outdoor-focused smartwatch with great exercise tracking capabilities, but it is on the expensive side for what's on offer.

Rugged design; Broad exercise tracking support; Custom route creation;

Expensive; 1-2 day battery life;

Suunto 7 review: Sporting skills on Wear OS

With good battery life from a Google Wear OS watch, the Suunto 7 is off to a good start. But it's expensive and some of the features seem at odds with their potential.

Accurate tracking; Good battery life in exercise tracking; Comfortable to wear; Great display; Offline mapping; Google Pay;

Expensive; No route guidance; Maps a bit disconnected; Exercise and lifestyle tracking use different systems;

Suunto 7 review: Still a hardcore fitness watch

Suunto, a Finnish activity brand, has a serious following among hardcore fitness fanatics. With the new Suunto 7 smartwatch, the company is now throwing a well-worn training shoe into the lucrative sports lifestyle world as well. The Suunto 7 is the company’s first smartwatch with Google’s WearOS platform, which increases its appeal. While the design will still entice the brand’s core fans, it’s less overtly sporty than some of Suunto’s other GPS fitness watches and trackers. The Suunto 7 looks similar to the Suunto 9, released in 2018. It has a glass fiber-reinforced polyamide case, a stainless steel bezel, and a wonderfully soft and pliable silicone strap. There are four buttons on the case, each made from the same stainless steel as the bezel, and they’re large enough to access even when wearing gloves. At 50mm, the watch is big on all wrists. However, at only 70 grams, it’s not heavy. It’s lighter than the Suunto 9, and a little heavier than the stainless steel Apple Watch Series 5...

Comprehensive fitness features; Two-day battery life; Smooth performance and software; Hard-wearing, water resistant case;

Annoying buttons can frustrate; Expensive compared to the competition; Only best for dedicated fitness fans;
