This binocular is not for everyone. It's a purpose made piece of equipment for marine & military ap
Bulletproof; excellent optical quality
Compass could be easier to use
Reasonably light-weight, very clear glass, German quality. Range-finding reticle, accurate compass. My only gripe - the reticle mast moves when you adjust the inter-pupilar distance, and in my case becomes "bent" after adjustment. I guess it's inevitable with this design (which is very common).
I recently purchased the Steiner Navigator Pro Binoculars and I am very impressed. I use them on my sailboat and do offshore racing. I thought my last set was great and I know see what I was missing. These are really incredible optics and clarity is way better than the old set.
If you are looking for marine binoculars the German Steiner company offers you two specialized series: the cheaper Navigator and the more expensive Commander. In both cases you deal with Porro prism 7x30 and 7x50 instruments, available with or without compass built-in.
very solid; fully sealed casing; very good correction of chromatic aberration; negligible distortion; moderate coma; sharp image across almost the whole field of view; low brightness loss on the edge of the field of view
no coatings (or weak coatings) on prisms optical elements; truncated and darkened exit pupils near the very edge; interior of the tubes leaves something to be desired
If you like porro prism binoculars, this is one of the two best I have seen, and I have seen and used many. The other is the Fujinon Polaris 7x50. The best use cases are for sports, birding and wildlife, including whale watching.
Perfect optics ,compass encroaches slightly and they're quite heavy !
