If you’re on a winning streak, all you need to do is tweak a little. In the Sony WH-1000XM4, the Japanese electronics maker has smartly added some new features and kept most of what’s great about its noise cancelling headphones.

Sony has been making noise-canceling headphones for years, and it's gotten pretty good at it. We had very few complaints about Sony's WH-1000XM3 headphones , so there wasn't much to fix in the latest iteration.

Despite having a ton of features, and still reigning king in noise-cancellation technology, I’m still not very into this line as much as some people are. The signature doesn’t impress me when comparing it to other wireless headphones like the or Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC.

NEW DELHI: As far as consumer audio products are concerned, Sony’s 1000XM series never fails to impress. But the problem with updating any consumer electronics product on a yearly basis is that you run out of ways to make them better. With the WH-1000XM4, Sony faces that uphill battle.

To be honest, I wouldn’t have wanted to be in the shoes of Sony’s engineers and product developers, as they set about trying to improve on the already excellent Sony WH-1000XM3.

Noise-cancelling headphones used to be only a Bose specialty for many years. Over the past few years, things have changed drastically as many competitors have come to the challenge. Sony has been the one to really overthrow them in my opinion as well as other who may agree.
