Sony A7R III review

Despite its relative newcomer status to serious digital photography, Sony has made huge strides to catch up with its veteran rivals – and the A7R III is testament to that. Taking all the good bits from previous A7 models (the OLED viewfinder, solid build, full-frame sensor), perfecting certain things and adding a host of new features, it’s a truly brilliant enthusiast camera that’ll handle any photo or video task you could put in front of it: wildlife, portraiture, landscape, street photography, filmmaking. Yes, it’s a seriously expensive product, but top products usually are. Just know that if you can find the money down the back of the sofa, you’ll be getting one of the finest cameras around in return.

Fast burst mode and autofocus; Superb all-round video and still quality; Lengthy battery life;

Large body by CSC standards; Screen tilts but doesn’t flip;

Sony A7R III

The Sony A7R III is the company's latest professional 35mm full-frame compact system camera. It features the same back-illuminated full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor as its predecessor, the A7R II, with a resolution of 42.4 megapixels and no optical low pass filter, but offers a long list of significant...

Sony A7R Mark III Camera Body ILCE7RM3B review

Although it has the same pixel count as the A7R II, the A7R III makes some significant improvements upon its predecessor. The handling is much improved by the addition of the Multi-Selector (mini-joystick) for setting the AF point.

High-quality full-frame 42Mp sensor; 10fps continuous shooting; Silent shutter possible at 10fps

Limited use made of the touch-screen; Complex menu that could still be better arranged; Only one SD slot is UHS-II compliant

Sony Alpha A7R III review

If Nikon thought it was going to have things all its own way with the D850, it should think again. Sony has taken one of our favorite mirrorless cameras and bolstered the performance to make the new Alpha A7R III a much more capable and well-rounded offering.

10fps at 42.2MP; Advanced 5-axis IS system; Large and bright EVF; Fast AF performance; Improved handling

Battery life could still be better; Limited touchscreen control; Only one SD slot supports UHS-II cards

Sony A7R III Review: Sony Gives Its High-Resolution Mirrorless Camera a Burst of Speed

There are a variety of new things under the Sony A7R III's hood, including the ability to shoot 10 frames per second (fps) continuous bursts of images at full resolution, 4K video recording across the width of its full-frame sensor, longer battery life, and a host of other features.

Sony a7R III Review

After finishing the Sony a9 review, I stated "As I go back to my Sony a7R II to continue work on the Sony lens reviews , I'm left feeling in want." I was still happy with the s7R II's resolution and dynamic range, but I definitely wanted some of the a9's new and improved features.

Sony A7R III review

The A7R III is so good, so powerful and so versatile. Its troubling body-lens size mismatch, and 530/650-shot battery life, which is good for mirrorless but poor next to a pro DSLR, means it just loses half a star from an otherwise perfect score.

Superb resolution; 10fps continuous shooting; 4K video options

Body/lens size mismatch; Pro lenses are expensive; Battery life still not at DSLR level

Sony A7R III

The Sony Alpha 7R III is Sony's latest high-resolution, full-frame mirrorless camera. It offers impressive all-round specifications, with a 42.4MP sensor, 10fps continuous shooting, a hybrid AF system that employs 399 phase-detection points covering approximately 68% of the frame, and 4K video...

Phenomenal image quality in almost any situation; Extremely fast and responsive; Compact; lightweight design with well-placed controls; Superb electronic viewfinder; In-body image stabilisation gives sharper images with any lens

AF area is invisible when moved using the joystick; Rear screen only tilts up or down; Handgrip too close to the lens for shooting with gloves

Game Changing Dynamic Range And Resolution

I'm reviewing the a7R III from the perspective of a bird and wildlife shooter. I do lots of shooting of moving animals at predawn and after sunset, so dynamic range is a huge plus. Since I'm shooting feathers and fur, resolution is a high priority.
