Sony A6400

Sony's A6400 camera occupies a sort of middle-ground between its top-of-the-line a6500 model and the accessible, ultra-cheap a6000. It features an APS-C-sized sensor and is aimed at the enthusiast, budget-conscious photographer.

Fantastic AF tracking; Small size is great for travelling; Good range of accessories and lenses

Fiddly operation; Limited battery life; Viewfinder and screen using old technology

Great City Camera

The Sony A6400 is a great camera for walking in the city to take pictures. I have walked 4 miles in the city taking pictures with it. Sony Alpha A6400 Review

The Sony Alpha A6400, is Sony's latest 24mp APS-C E-Mount mirrorless camera, and updates the A6300 . New additions include a tilting touch-screen that tilts all the way forward for selfies or vlogging, as well as an updated autofocus (AF) system, with improved focus speeds and tracking.

Compact size; Excellent Image Quality; Improved noise performance; Unlimited video recording; 11fps continuous shooting; Wi-Fi; NFC and Bluetooth; MyMenu

16:9 aspect ratio screen reduces size of 4:3 images; Menu system is overly long; No in-camera raw editing; Handling could be improved

Sony A6400 Mirrorless Camera Body Only ILCE6400B review

Sony’s latest APS-C mirrorless features some remarkable technology, says Andy Westlake, but is let down by its out-dated body design.

Astonishingly capable subject-tracking autofocus; Excellent image quality in almost any shooting situation; High level of control customisation available; Relatively compact size and decent build quality; Astonishingly capable subject-tracking autofocus; Excellent image quality in almost any...

Out-dated body design is much less pleasant to use than its competitors; Control setup is poorly-configured out of the box; 16:9 LCD screen gives small display area for 3:2 stills; Minimal touchscreen functionality; No in-body image stabilisation; Out-dated body design is much less pleasant to use...

Sony A6400 review

The A6400 is a strong performer in terms of all-round image quality, general speed and autofocus, and its small size makes it easy to live with – but we can’t help feel that some of Sony’s choices might be enough to put off potential buyers. The lack of in-body stabilisation, the upwards-flipping screen potentially being blocked by an external mic and the very noticeable rolling shutter appearance in videos are all black marks against an otherwise impressive camera. None of them make the A6400 a bad buy, but they do mean you might be better off with another mid-range model.

Lightning fast, super accurate autofocus; Small, lightweight body; Generally strong all-round image quality;

Some awkward ergonomic choices; No in-body stabilisation; Very visible rolling shutter effect;

Sony A6400 Review

The Sony A6400 offers fantastic specifications for the price and features. Highlights include excellent auto-focus tracking, a compact travel design and a diverse set of compatible accessories and lenses. Were it not for minor issues with its handling and battery life this would be one of the best mid-level mirrorless cameras around.

Fantastic AF tracking; Small size is great for travelling; Good range of accessories and lenses;

Fiddly operation; Limited battery life; Viewfinder and screen using old technology;

Sony Alpha A6400 review

It’s great that Sony has put the work in on the autofocus system for the A6400. It’s something that can really help photographers of all levels. Real-time Tracking aside, it’s not quite as fast or as reliable as the AF system in the Sony A9, but it’s very good, especially for a camera that is set to...

Sony Alpha A6400 review

The Apple iPhone 14 is no match for the just-released iPhone 14 Pro, but if you ignore that, it’s one of the most effective phones around.

Great cameras, front and back, Fast performance, Good battery life, Innovative safety features

Design too familiar, Some average features

Sony Alpha A6400 review

The iPhone 14 isn’t much of an upgrade over the iPhone 13, but it’s still a great device and an upgrade for anyone coming from the iPhone 11 or older.

Great camera, Good battery, Emergency features are cool, Still excellent performance

Display could use some upgrades
